It also has large eyes, but the really terrible thing is its grinning mouth, which covers over half its body. Instead of teeth, the smile exposes a slice of kiwi. The monster is standing on another, much larger sliced kiwi, presumably a vanquished foe.

that included some of the policy changes around this and we ended up developing a grad student drinking game around assertions that shark feeding and freedom were synonyms.

Gallaudet University is a proud symbol of the deaf community. Yet in its 124 years of existence, this prestigious university has never had a president who is hearing impaired. Its Board of Trustees has never included a majority of hearing impaired people. Indeed, when the chairperson of the Board states that βdeaf people are not ready to function in a hearing world,β and when a hearing candidate for president is selected over several qualified deaf candidates, it is no surprise that the students of Gallaudet have joined together in protest. The Board of Trustees has an obligation to respond to student concerns with sensitivity. There is no time to resolve this dispute equitably. The problem is not that the students do not hear. The problem is that the hearing world does not listen. The entire nation owes the students of Gallaudet its gratitude for reminding us once again that each of us has the ability and the right to achieve. I urge the Board of the University to move forward and recognize the justice of its studentsβ demands. In Solidarity, Jesse L. Jackson

-crossing a balance beam-like structure high over the city, to test their physical aptitude
OR
-a second, mysterious test, which I woke up before learning
Tahi, a kea parrot, wings spread for a landing. You can see powder blue marks on his flight feathers that are completely hidden when folded up at rest by their drab olive-green coloring everywhere else. The beak is black and wickedly hooked.
Ora modeling the kea at rest--an unimpressive-looking heavy-bodied bird. The green-gray feathers look like scales because they have a darker rim on the edges.
Tahi and Ora, newly arrived kea parrots. Tahi is outgoing and loves hanging out with his keepers. Ora is more reserved and strong-willed. Her favorite treat is pine nuts.
