Canβt thank you enough for joining us this season π
05.09.2025 19:23 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Oh yeah, Iβd buy this β‘οΈ
05.09.2025 15:46 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yesss in our chat we made a similar point that the metrons could have lifted right out of the episode. SNW is plagued with convenient βmemory wipesβ and βthis will be classified foreverβ plot reasons.
05.09.2025 15:28 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Iβm on the other side of this, as I donβt think the Gorn changes to canon have been THAT radical (ok, outside of the Batel/Hybrid thing!)
Terrarium works best for Ortegasβ story arc and her own trauma.
But, yes, your overall point largely stands. This is just more of the βprequel problemβ IMO.
Had βthe twistβ come earlier, we could have chewed the scenery dealing with the philosophical quandary of humans being forced to do what they to, to survive.
05.09.2025 12:45 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Craig and I talk about this a bit more too, in our review of βSehlat.β The most interesting stuff isnβt explored - the end of the episode introducing some of the most compelling βscience fictionβ parts of Trek were largely ignored and handwaved in favor of action adventure

And to your previous point, a two-parter that expands on some of this might have been truly rewarding in that aspect! The stakes felt high enough (Ortegas doesnβt have plot armor)!
05.09.2025 12:39 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0We may feel βlet downβ by this season of Strange New Worlds, thereβs been a lot of good stuff packed into this season. βTERRARIUMβ is a great episode that Iβll look to rewatch in the years to come.
Great chat with @ohtheprofanity.com & @thenerdyblogger.bsky.social on our podcast! #startrek
This could very well be the case and I donβt necessarily disagree - another thought I had rewatching the episode, Pike is allowing Uhura to chase this process to its natural conclusion, so she understands what it truly takes to rescue a friend/crewmember.
05.09.2025 12:30 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Iβm somewhere in that bucket too. For me itβs how they approach canon - handwaving it as irrelevant and acting as though it doesnβt matter (long established lore with Vulcan philosophy for instance), versus βfudging the detailsβ (Spock & TPring) for the sake of expanding the universe.
05.09.2025 12:23 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0I wanna toot @thenerdyblogger.bsky.social and @mikeslamer.bsky.social βs horns and say this was a fantastic discussion of this episode, season three of #StrangeNewWorlds, and where the show is going. Thanks for having me on the show!
04.09.2025 22:26 β π 12 π 2 π¬ 2 π 0#StarTrekStrangeNewWorlds "Through the Lens of Time" #TVReview A functional episode with a competent plot that poses compelling questions and gestures towards meaningful ideas, but misplaces its focus, leaving its deeper potential unrealised.

I can understand if folks felt let down by this opening episode, itβs very Borg heavy, redefining key characteristics of Trekβs biggest villain. The Chakotay fakeout only works if you handwave through it. Sevenβs introduction is all that matters in this episode.
