I work in local news, and it was all hands on deck back in those days. No one was allowed to take a day off that week. My neighbors were patrolling, and I bought bags of candy for everyone. Now, “Halloween in the D” is so boring lol cops doing Trunk or Treats… and now Michigan Central is open for 🎃

It took some time, like maybe ten years of effort… but turning Devil’s Night into Angel’s Night, volunteers patrolled the neighborhoods to make sure shenanigans were not afoot and no fires lit. Now it’s just called Halloween in the D and kids don’t even know Detroit used to be on fire on Oct 30
