Tariffs are a tax. They are not going to make anything meaningfully cheaper because that is not how capitalism works. Let’s just assume a car with imported parts cost $10,000. With a 25% tariff, it now costs $12,500. Let’s pretend that it was possible to be able to build a car this month from scratch without importing a single part (cause It’s not possible - that will probably take years to be able to do at scale). Even if it was cheaper to manufacture, its retail price will probably be about $12,000. Why? Because the car manufacturer isn’t going to leave $2,000 on the table out of the kindness of their hearts. Their responsibility is to their shareholders to make the most profits they can. They have no incentive to give you a good deal. They are also probably going to have make up thr massive costs of abruptly pivoting their businesses. Prices go up regardless. This is not like Bush’s steel tariffs - those had targeted purposes and time limits. This is capricious and destructive.

Tariffs are a tax.

The 1st amendment protects the people from the government restricting our right to protest and say whatever we want provided it doesn’t insight, eminent violence or lawless action. Technically legal go rob banks. Actually illegal go rob the bank on the corner at 2 PM tomorrow.

Legal definitions matter. It’s the reason why what is going on in Gaza is not legally considered a genocide. Mahmoud Khalil gets to scream “Intifada!” and “Death to Israel” all he wants, the same way we as Jews get to say “Am Yisroel Chai” and “The only good N*zi is a dead one.” I don’t have to like or agree with him, but if his free speech gets restricted, it’s only a matter of time before mine does. A precedent is a precedent.

If he actually committed crimes, he should absolutely be held accountable and receive the due process afforded to everyone on US soil. Administration has stated that protest won’t be allowed and that is a violation of the first amendment that is not OK in any way shape or form even if I feel threatened by the protesters. It starts with one and becomes all of us. I will fight for your right to be an asshole so that I get my right to speak my peace as well.

The process matters.

If you condemn antisemitism, you condemn it. You don’t pick and choose. These types of salutes lead to violence. You don’t get to ignore a N*zi salute because you’re outraged about a murdered Jewish baby. You either dislike atrocities or you don’t. Again and again, these GOP senators are choosing to remain silent or outright enable the shredding of our Constitution and dismantling of our government because they care more about the billionaires who will benefit than they do about us.

And all of these senators are facing re-election next year.
