Sure. GoG and Itch focused on a specific niche that was under-served. Works well, but limits their reach unless they change.

Epic... it feels to me like they stopped investing in functionality for the store and so will never even reach parity. "It's good enough", and they focus on Fortnite instead.

Whether we are aware Amazon was trying to compete or not is more an argument that they were simply bad at it, not that it isn't difficult to compete. So I agree it was an Amazon failure!

Remembering that Steam was a mess at launch and took years to get stable and attractive, building a useful platform takes a LOT of work. Getting from there to "even better" while Steam can copy what works--that's tough.

Epic and Amazon tried giving away free games. That's enough to get people to look at the store, but not to stick around. Customers get what they need and move on. Exclusives don't have the impact on PC they do on console--there is no platform specific $ investment like hardware.

Oh certainly. But there are barriers to entry--it takes a lot of funds to create a platform and entice users over given satisfaction with Steam and customer investment. Even being "just as good" isn't enough--it has to be better, and I don't know the features that would convince folks.

Not a monopoly, but given the strong barriers to entry (even heavily subsidized competitor products such as Epic and Amazon struggle to gain market share), I'd believe arguments that they exhibit oligopolistic power.

That said, I have no idea what LinkedIn means by the term—just going by the business side. We’ll “close” it while we work through resumes then reopen if needed.

You can reapply—if it’s worth the timing entering forms. When we post now, we get 1000+ applications a day it’s open. Often a lot of of applicants will get missed due to sheer volume, or our HR folks aren’t focusing on what we need. Repost can be a way to “refresh” a stale applicant pool.

Even as someone who listens to gaming podcasts, it feels like so many titles this year I’ve heard nothing about—even those I expected to get a passing mention at minimum. Weird is the right word to me too.

As someone who hires for tech roles--cover letters aren't common for us. But I've talked to my non-tech peers and largely they look at cover letters to confirm solid grammar and no spelling mistakes. Lack of attention to detail is an easy way to eliminate applicants. Might not notice AI-gen.
