Clarification: Gonzo has gotten it in his head that when I work out, that is cuddle time with dade, cause I'm on the floor doing situps and what not. So I give him cuddle time. He's sweet for about 10 minutes, then he gets rambunctious and attacks my arms. This time he got a little too rambunctious!

I enjoy them all. I just have to turn up my internal filters more for AOTC, lol. But it's got great stuff, Jango and Boba, I love that it's Jar Jar that helps usher in the Empire, the last 40 minutes or so are terrific. And Rogue One is the best of the Disney stuff by far. It's fantastic.

I actually like The Phantom Menace the best, and obviously Attack of the Clones is the worst (but still has a bunch of great stuff). And Lucas deserves credit for tackling what was happening with W and the Iraq war and the Patriot Act and all that jazz. And the film feels downright prophetic today.

Good examples of exceptions. Both Cage and Walken are getting up there in years, tho. Cage is still getting leading parts, altho in much weirder/smaller films (like Mandy). Goldblum is another who comes to mind as an unconventional leading man, altho he too is past leading man roles.

RIP Joe Don Baker, most of us knew him from MST but he was something we don't have anymore: a character actor / leading man. In that way he was like Gene Hackman. Where are the Roy Scheiders, the Lee Marvins? Bogie couldn't even be a leading man today. Everybody has to be so damn pretty.

So Musk orders his programmers to make his Grok AI spout drivel about white genocide, and the AI apologetically tells people, "Yeah there's no genocide, they messed with my code to make me say that." It's like something out of a William Gibson story except about really stupid people.

It shoulda been huge. After the 2nd weekend somebody at WB said, "it's mind-numbing that Furiosa hasn't grossed $50 million domestically." But people will be discovering this film for a long time. It's amazing that Miller created 2 once in a generation level films within a decade of each other.

One final thought: these films are as much about the way myth is handed down through oral history as anything else. Most of them have outright narrators in some form or another, and the differences in their continuity are best explained by the idea that these are oral tales of mythic characters.

There's a tactile reality to the world, the landscape, those incredible stunts. The film is chopped and channeled to an iconic purity. I must admit, Gibson gives maybe the greatest action performance, however he might have turned out. Overall, this is the greatest action film series of them all.

It may be called Mad Max, but it's really her story. Seeing it on opening day was one of the great moviegoing experiences of my life. As my wife put it, at the end we shed tears of gratitude. It's hard to say, but I might give the edge to The Road Warrior.
