My local indie bookstore is reporting that this year’s #IndieBookstoreDay was their single biggest sales day ever, all time. That’s super badass. Love to see it.

good way to start a poem:

The brow of a horse in that moment when
The horse is drinking water so deeply from a trough
It seems to inhale the water, is holy.

I refuse to explain.

This is a small, independent, women-led press that publishes such beautiful books and such great poems. This is their 51st year, which is itself a triumph. Please consider submitting to the Anhinga Prize soon!

Having INCREDIBLY insightful convos in AP Lit this week discussing this classic book and the use of closed-forms to express selfhood. The shape of thinking/consciousness, the structures available to us. Good stuff @sarabandebooks.bsky.social

The description of a poem’s structure, then, becomes the answer to the question β€œWhat keeps it going?” [...] This allows the possibility of the corollary question, β€œWhat stops it from going?”

Currently teaching these gems in AP Lit / high school seniors. I love bringing the kids into contemporary poetry. Invariably they are energized by these collections and go totally bananas.

"As we read a poem, our expectations concerning the *probable* ending are determined by the structure that emerges as we read--a poem's structure should suggest an ending."

Incredible. I’m not super good with taxonomy but I would call these poems β€œvisionary.” They twist and turn and think and have all the freedom they need to inhabit consciousness. Alive and fresh. Truly stunning. #poetry #reginaldshepherd @upittpress.bsky.social

volume 18 number 1 Preface

so proud of Patty Paine and everyone involved: Diode Editions is now in its 18th year! That's incredible. So many poems and so many books. I remember logging on for the first issue and wondering about electronic journals. Now of course diode is a venerable institution. V. good stuff
