We actually have the capacity to create meaningful change, change that can preserve life, if we can allow ourselves to experience fully the grief that each of us carries in our most secret heart, the grief of the death of the Earth.

We surrender.
We grieve.
We see.
Love fills the empty space, arising spontaneously in the aftermath of grief.
We act as though we have nothing to lose, because we've already lost it all. Our actions arise from love for the preciousness of this life.

It doesn't matter what we call this something. What matters is that surrender to whatever is beyond our death, and the process of grieving the immeasurable and overwhelming loss, generate vast courage. In this courage lies our capacity to see and to act.

Then we're free to choose who we are and how we live based not on extrinsic motivators -- end that justify various means -- but entirely on our internal sense of alignment with something greater than our life and death.

Herein lies the paradox: we have power when we relinquish control.

We have power when we accept our own death, not as a theoretical and abstract eventuality, but as something that could happen anytime and maybe soon.

But more and more people feel more and more powerless, as the plutocratic oligarchy consolidates control, subsistence requires ever greater effort for almost everyone, chronic and acute health problems spread rapidly, and democratic and ecological systems collapse.

So where can we have power?
