Okay, the main reason I absolutely love Octavia Butler's writing is how she builds culture.

That "like the police" is just so culturally significant and terribly enjoyable to me.

Cannot focus on this job though..so working is slow going

Today:

-took a self defense driving course
-submitted revisions to the first chapter
-working (knocking out those hours)
-organized my desk (papers & books cannot be everywhere y'all 🤣)
-researched/printed more
-the library is closed so PLANNING to hit the used bookstore later.

As a girl I get it. That fellas are told flowers/dinner/candy is fool-proof and won't disappoint. Doing little or nothing is definitely not going to go well for most girls incl me.

Thinking about Valentines day..Hoping everyone has a great time and lots of love. My thoughts of the topic: My ex-husband would put a lot of the pressure on w the restaurant/candy/flowers/jewelry stuff. I liked that for a while but I think I liked the effort not those things (if that makes sense).

When I saw my purpose for sm use had crept away from this, it stressed me. I had not realized my likes/comments were being used in weird ways. Mostly posting emojis at funny stuff & commenting on an interesting topic. But then drama/outrage in my feed. Hint it plays to our worst impulses most times.

I wrote a short story that was inspired by the often-used sentence "there's nothing new under the sun." Its hard sci fi. It's good...don't know if i should take out some of the dry humor. We will see...someone is proofreading/editing it for me. I'm going to bed now 😴

Ashton Kutcher made real bad...horrible even sci-fi. Beauty used sci-fi elements haphazardly to make a point abt beauty standards (even throw in incel commentary for no apparent point). Unrealistic sex-based metamorphosis (like what?) then unexpected killing for mystery. WHAT? WHY? Fighting? Why? 👎

I went to my car and its iced all over like the door was a little hard to open. I'm googling DIY deicing sprays just in case. "can I use Witch Hazel instead of Alcohol?" Does Windex work in a pinch? 🤣 I have a plan if my mother's power goes out I would drive (but on ice🤣) & get the generator going.
