That blew my mind. First thing I mentioned to C afterwards.

50 years then. Doesn't time fly when you're waiting for a real rain to come? I'll never forget walking thru Broadmead in Bristol and seeing that poster above the Odeon. I don't think a poster has ever made me want to see a movie more than that street shot of De Niro did.

It was the Doug Yule led Velvets by then so no. You could see them for 50p in Hitchen Herts on that same visit.

And 30 years later when I lived just down the road it was a B&Q. And that's even been demolished now. Also Morrissey lived on nearby Kings Road but he would have only been 12 or 13 when that NYD gig happened.

Well worth a listen. No pointless reruns of well aired stories. No one says iconic.

Just listened to a fascinating R3 Between The Ears on Bernard Herrmann and writing the score for Taxi Driver. That got me through half an hour of boring Sunday evening kitchen chores a treat.

I meant literary legacies obviously but literacy works as well.

I do hope the new Wuthering Heights winds people up, especially Bronte Society bores, like Lily Cole's appointment did. All these gatekeepers who think they own literacy legacies. Our Alice is already excited about it bcos Charli and all the local moorland locations she recognises. Power to ver kids

Yes, both of those, making the Doors sound great in a film for once. Plus using Greensleeves rather than Classical Gas. Pure class.

You know what! It's the moment that finally made me start liking ELO. Every time Lonely Boy by Andrew Gold comes on one of my oldies stations I think Boogie Nights. And Elvin Bishop.

The coke scenes and its gradual encroachment and debilitation are the best I've ever seen. That egomaniacal promo Amber makes for Dirk and Reed, every frozen facial spasm and sniff just method perfect. Amber and Roller Girl talking big plans but ending with let's never leave this room. Spot on.

Not a fan of its third act, that one. Or for that matter Magnolia. I like Licorice Pizza for its warmth. Plus he chooses music better than anyone. Makes Tarantino look like the earwigging student canteen nerd that he is.

Watched Boogie Nights for the nth time last nite. A reluctant yes at first but found myself marvelling again at the structure, it is a masterpiece of character evolution and pacing. The way the 70s ends kerblam and then everyone has a messy 80s. His best film.

The commentators not saying a single word during the wonderful ice skating displays. Enjoy it while it lasts, it probably won't catch on. (But thanks anyway, the commentators.)

That's a smart way of putting it. I've given up on several shows in the past (some much loved on here) where I've thought this isn't as clever as it thinks it is, just clever-clever, or this is all a little too pleased with itself.

I think it was either Otis Span or JB Lenoir who said they all looked in disdain as this bunch of limeys shambled in. And then Peter Green plugged in.

WKCR currently playing a whole bunch of tracks from Blues Jam At Chess. A great album.

The Small Faces one is great. Someone had left a pile of old music mags at the station free library a while back. I brought it home and kept it. I'd forgotten what great value Marriott and Lane were in interviews.

When I taught American exchange students in 1990 there was a total Brita in the group, even looked a bit like her. Most of the students were from Philly, she was from California and boy couldn't you tell.

I really had the attention hots for Annie first time round. And the Dean. This time round I am really appreciating Troy and Chang more.

By the end of season 2 it's at the top of its game, all the characters and themes have bedded in and the interplay and little micro-groups within the ensemble are just exquisite. It must have been a dream to write for those characters.

Plus it's genuinely one of those shows where if you laugh too long and loud at a line you often have to rewind because you've missed the next two jokes.

Yes "pop-culture referencing" but that's 10 a penny. The way it does it while seemingly making no concessions to a not up with the pace audience is unique. + some of the best ensemble work I've ever seen and the intro vignettes and pay off lines are little works of art. This show should be massive.

Nice to see the Times giving Community a plug but this bland resume doesn't even begin to convey how and why it's such a great show. We're currently rewatching for the first time since they were first aired and if anything it's even better second time round>

Car radio had been left on R2 (a bad thing) but they played Say I'm Your Number One by Princess (a holy thing) but then DJ Famouser crashed the fade with some reliably asinine banter (a shithead thing).

Still at least he didn't swindle his family out of money and fake a partner's illness for a publishing and film contract. There would have been no comeback from that for either publisher or author. Oh wait. I'm just being passed a piece of paper.

"He legged it to the trading floor of Merrill Lynch" as you do when you've bootstrapped your way up. "He pirated ZX Spectrum game cassettes and flogged them for quid." Did he? The little rascal. My late brother got done nicking lead off Francis Pym's roof. Can I have a book contract please?

That Times review of the Sajid Javid memoir sounds like a publishers wet dream. "Borderline criminality" in childhood. Ooh they love a bit of 'borderline' don't they? "Like any good Thatcherite who bought Β£500 of British Gas shares at 14." What bootstrap driven prole can't relate to that?
