An unsung masterpiece. We localized this one into French, including translation, casting and voice direction. Hilarious script, great translations (if I may say so...), top-notch voice acting. One of the projects we are most proud of.

Il faut aussi garder à l'esprit que ça arrange les agences de traduction de garder les traducteurs et traductrices dans l'ombre, donc dépendants de leurs services. D'après mon expérience, les développeurs et éditeurs ne rechignent que très rarement à créditer les traducteurs.

Beau combat, que l'on soutient de tout coeur.
Cela dit, en plus de 25 ans de carrière, nous avons été crédités dans 98% des cas pour notre travail de traduction, sans doute parce que l'on travaille en direct avec les développeurs et les éditeurs, sans passer par des agences de traduction.

Note that wasted space can be super useful when it comes to localization, as translation are often longer than source text.

I'm really sad that never had the opportunity to work with @rawfury.bsky.social, because they do publish great games. This bundle is crammed with gems and at this price, it's frankly a steal: both Kathy Rain games, Sable, Call of the Sea, Friends vs Friends, American Arcadia, Backbone/Tails Noir...

The level of attention to detail that @yachtclubgames.bsky.social put into every aspect of their games (including localization!) is astounding. Mina the Hollower is a much more ambitious game that it may appear at first glance, I hope it'll get the success it deserves.

Hidden Runaway was the missing piece of my Pendulo collection (I had no idea that a boxed version had been released in Germany...), and now I have it thanks to my good friend Josué Monchan! Yes, we did translate this one into French too! 😀

I'm pretty sure that he meant "in the context of the type of games that I want to make". Perhaps the article makes it sound more assertive than he intended it to be.

It's great that the legacy of these older games lives on.

I think he is talking about KS campaigns that would be able to bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars or more. Remember Thimbleweed raised $600k and that was only half of the final development budget.

Even though both suffered from limited development budgets (especially the first one), I have very fond memories of this series. Solid gold plot with wild unexpected twists, memorable characters and lots of dark humor.

I should be bored by it, since I've been TRANSLATING games for more than 25 years, but just say "A sci-fi language mystery" and "Translate an undiscovered language" and I'm sold.
