There's few more unsettling places to be alone than a clear-felled forestry plantation in fog, but it's an odd paradox that despite their apocalyptic look, these deadzones are far more richly alive in wildlife and plants than the dense and darkly regimented rows of conifers which stood there before.

Few things as good to see as a dog that knows it's safe now and it can be happy
