At Glastonbury, we chatted about the need to fix our voting system and the rally that Young MVM is hosting on the 6th of July.
Great to see it mentioned in @rollingstoneuk.bsky.social

π₯ "It should be that people have the power, and that means making sure that people can't buy elections."
At our event in Parliament this week, @appgfairelections.bsky.social Vice Chair, @lisasmartmp.bsky.social called for action to stop the power of big money in our politics.
βPlace first, not party first. Thatβs a better politics, that connects with the country.
I think itβs time for Proportional Representation.β @andyburnham.bsky.social

π¨ "So no, look, we are firmly in favour of First Past the Post", says Reform UK's Chairman
β° Labour needs to wake up: First Past the Post is now Nigel Farage's "friend"
π£ Why risk a far fight majority government on less than 30% of the vote?
π¨ "Reform UK have reached a 'tipping point' where Britain's electoral system works for them rather than holding them back", according to expert analysis
β° Labour needs to wake up & get serious about electoral reform - starting with a National Commission

"You won the West of England Mayor's race, but the winner gets 25%... does that feel to you like democracy?"
"Do you think we've got to look again at the voting system?"
"Less than 10% of the total electorate voted for the candidate who won - which feels crazy"

Solidarity to Steve North.
He's a fantastic and principled trade unionist.
The decision on this case took 2 years! There is no justification for taking that long. Then the timing of the announcement in the first week of key UNISON NEC elections shows very poor judgement or deliberate political motivation.

Lots to digest here but key point is it did what it was meant to:
