Shouldn't that be 'Phantom Laddie'?
04.03.2025 17:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I think I just got so fed up with them pitching Clara as the be-all and end-all of the Companions that it soured me on those series the first time round. It's noticeable that after Clara, the Companions have tended more to be just that, *not* superbeings/major temporal nexuses, or any such bollox.
04.03.2025 17:08 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Trying to distract myself, I'm still embarking on the Doctor Who re-watch. Matt Smith was better than I remembered him the first time round - and I *adore* Madame Vastra and her gang - and even the first couple of Capaldis so far aren't bad.
04.03.2025 17:06 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Meanwhile, over in NYC, Mayor Adams, who I've long thought a camouflaged Republican, judging by his willingness to open his legs for any lucrative building project, is no longer bothering to disguise his affiliations.
Is this really the best that one of the world's most famous cities can offer?
Keir Starmer has never been a happy performer in the media - I've likened his persona in the past to a Thunderbird puppet, and I stand by that evaluation - but his visit to Trump was particularly embarrassing, even, evidently, to him, in its oleaginousness. Truly cringe-worthy.
01.03.2025 13:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Eww, sea-bugs! If Lana Lang could turn into it, I don't eat it! You're welcome to my share.
02.02.2025 19:46 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Fair play, though, most of it was a pretty tight and tense thriller. The flashbacks, on reflection, weren't too onerous. Shame we're not going to see any more.
01.02.2025 23:23 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Me, watching TV tonight: "Oh, that character's quoting a Cat Stevens lyric."
Husband No. 1: "Oh, yeah. he became a Mormon, didn't he?"
Me: (long pause) "Muslim. There's a bit of a difference."
Ohh, but then I passed the half-way point in my re-watching, and we got the endless fecking sepia-tinted flashbacks, and I remembered why I didn't like 'Miracle Day' anywhere near as much as I should have, as the plot ground to a halt. Sigh. They were doing so well until then...
25.01.2025 21:51 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I am continually baffled by people who condemn Russia's incursion into Ukraine, yet support Israel's incursion into Palestine. To me that's the dictionary definition of 'doublethink'.
25.01.2025 21:49 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0'Heart' seems rather inappropriate - I'm certainly not approving the mishap - but there seem to be no other options I've discovered yet. Sympathies.
25.01.2025 21:48 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It's a bit clunky, and right now I feel like I'm just throwing my words into a void, but I guess it's early days...
22.01.2025 18:41 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I would never have expected to get bored with fit young men dancing around shirtless, but after the first twenty minutes, you're just; "Okay, they're swans, we get it, MOVE ON with the story..."
So, yeah, not going to be converted into a balletomane in the foreseeable, soz.
I mean, it was very lovely to look at - sumptuous costumes and scenery, and even some of the plot was quite fun; I loved the tarty celebutante girlfriend, and the cold-hearted manipulative Queen, but when it came to the most famous bits, well.
22.01.2025 18:39 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Mind, Alexa Havins as the CIA chick's still beige and feeble. But Mekhi Phifer was a very welcome addition to the cast, spicing up the dynamic nicely. And Arlene Tur as guest Doctor was highly enjoyable; shame they didn't keep her on.
22.01.2025 18:37 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Re-watching 'Torchwood; Miracle Day', and enjoying it a great deal more than the first time around. Perhaps it just suffered by comparison with the excellent 'Children of Earth', which would be hard to beat, but I'm finding it a very tense, well-paced thriller with excellent character interaction.
22.01.2025 18:34 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Got taken to Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake recently.
Made me wish I'd learned to knit, so I could have used the time productively, since it was too dark to read a book...
I've really enjoyed J.D. Robb's (pseudonym for Nora Roberts) "In Death" series, which opens with "Naked In Death"; It's Eve Dallas, a near-future homicide cop in the New York Police and Security department, an agreeably effed-up heroine who solves generally intriguing crimes.
22.01.2025 17:34 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Well, some of the 'cool kids' over on FB suggested trying this, despite the fact I didn't get along with 'Formerly Known As Titter'; decided to give it a try in a spirit of Adventure.
(Though with my degree of online skills, 'House of Mystery' might be a more appropriate comics-based reference...)
Hello! Don't know how this all will work out, but joining the cool kids in a spirit of Adventure.
