Tiny preview of the Monotropa uniflora I'm working on! I'm also busy with a bunch of mosses. And good news, I've decided to offer DIY kits (see last post on Mastodon)! Once I've finished sourcing materials and writing the guides, they'll be available in my shop.

A hand holds five small, pink and translucent sculpted flower forms. The flowers have soft, curved petals and a delicate, waxy appearance. In the softly blurred background, begonia leaves and their blossoms are visible.

A lamp shaped like a delicate plant is encased in a glass dome with a wooden base. The plant resembles Indian pipe (Monotropa uniflora), with pale, drooping stems and bell-like flowers that emit a soft, warm light. The base is covered with dried paper leaves, enhancing the organic look. A fabric-covered electrical cord extends from the base. The background is dimly lit, with wooden shelving adding to the warm, moody atmosphere.

Working on a flower light. Maybe more then one, but at least one. A remake of the Monotropa uniflora, in a different-but-similar style.

A small embroidered moss and lichen artwork rests against a textured rock background. The piece consists of embroideries in the shapes of white and green lichen plaques, felted moss, and scattered Trichia decipiens slime mold bulbs with embedded lights. The lights are colored red by the hue of the bulbs. The whole is mounted on a wooden ring.

Just this! I love the rocks.

Apparently it's not just me who struggles with taking pictures of my work - the photographer I hired had a hard time too. But the results are great!

One of the effects of my work: seeing amazing tree trunks, with or without moss. I can really get very enthusiastic about tree trunks now. Or just wood, in general. Shapes! Textures!

Funny how on Instagram, only 66 of my 1,000 followers see my posts - and no one else. But on Mastodon, tons interact, even without following me. Instagram used to be like that too. Now, if I post, I’m immediately asked to pay for exposure. Almost like not paying is why nobody sees it.

A small, round embroidered artwork set in a wooden base, resembling a patch of moss with delicate white lichen and tiny red fruiting bodies. The embroidery is textured, with soft green knots mimicking moss and fine white stitches forming the lichen. The red accents are inspired by Trichia decipiens slime mold. The background shows a mossy surface with scattered hailstones.

I thought I'd take a picture of one of my nearly finished lights in my moss garden, dusted with hail, to show you. I might add some red stitches to this to support the red lights here, as they are a bit sparse. Made after Trichia decipiens (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trichia...).

A selection of small, colourful, porcelain coral sculptures. One is resting on an outstretched hand, to show the scale-it just about covers the fingers.
There are spirals, fans, spikes, craters, anemones, waves and brain coral. There are a few areas left white, but there’s a multitude of bright colours…Orange, purple, pink, emerald, chartreuse, turquoise, deep purple and red. A visual carnival!

Sorry for the plug. (Selling is the only way I can continue to make them!)

New mini pieces in my online shop on Sunday 2nd March at 7am GMT, 1pm GMT and 7pm GMT. There will also be some skull masks.

Which one’s your favourite?

Ik heb een drietal zoons die al hun natuurvondsten archiveren in het museum dat ik voor ze gemaakt heb in mijn gang - waaronder stapels en stapels schelpen. Dus er wordt aan gewerkt! :)

A preview of the results from my new material tests: one tiny moss sporophyte sculpture. Around 5 mm, possibly smaller. The results are promising! If you’d like to read more, check out my Mastodon post: mastodon.art/@LevendLicht...

A tiny artwork: lighted silicone sporophytes on an embroidered circular mossy background. The artwork is placed on a tree trunk in front of a leafy background. Moss covers the bottom of the trunk.

Man, I was ill with the flu for a long time! I'm back now and working on a few of these! I've stopped using the material I originally used to make these sporophytes (as I was unhappy with some of the material properties), but now I need to find a way to recreate themβ€”similar, or preferably, better.

Curie the cat snoozing on top of my typing hands

Today was suddenly very sad, as I had to say goodbye to my sweet little cat, Curie. She had a sudden epileptic attack that wouldn’t stop, and there was nothing we could do to help her except end her suffering. She was 15 years old and will be sorely missed.

A round embroidery piece with a mossy design rests on frost-covered plants. The embroidery features various green textures, with white clusters resembling lichen and tiny red dots adding detail. The wooden frame of the piece blends with the natural surroundings, and the frost highlights the patterns of the plants beneath.

I've been exploring these new platforms a bit since I've joined. Not only a great replacement of the previous ones (the Fediverse options most) but they also have some things I like a lot: alt text is way more easy to add! Why was it never like this before?

Lush greenery surrounds a stone spiral garden, through which mosses and sedums grow in various shades of green, yellow and pink. Frankly, the fact the moss and sedum work together is a miracle. It only works because the garden is very wet in the winter, and has good shade combined with daily occurences of full sunlight in summer. Every winter the sedums are outcompeted by the moss, while the opposite happens every summer.

I’m bummed that an image sharing platform I liked has become something bad for me and the world. I feel like a boiled frog who has been utilizing the internet to share art for more than 29 years, and now I have a choice between boiling water and no water at all!

Same! I've moved to PixelFed and Mastodon - image sharing platforms as they should be. Without a central greedy corporation, but federated instead. I feel like you would find it a nice substitute for Instagram too.
