oh, interesting. I've wondered about that a lot--the first book I saw with COVID is Tom Lake. The parallel is AIDS--it took decades, I think, for books to come out featuring the complexity of it. The first/best one I read was Tell the Wolves I'm Home, written in 2012. Do you know of any earlier?

A bus of Bronx middle schoolers pulled up to the Capitol this morning for a long-planned field trip just a few hours after the government shut down.

All Capitol tours were cancelled as the guides can’t work in shutdown.

While I don't disagree with you, at all, I remain concerned that if individuals "fill the gap" government(s) will abdicate their obligation to be make moral, ethical, thoughtful choices. We're not looking for handouts, we want our govt to do the right thing. And spend our tax $s accordingly.
