This is just speculation on my part at the moment, but maybe the deep basin under Bangkok could have caused a seismic resonance of the surface waves from the M7.7 Myanmar #earthquake?
In a manner similar to the resonance in Mexico City due to subduction earthquakes at significant distance. โš’๏ธ๐Ÿงช

Packed out at the Royal Society lecture theatre last night to hear distinguished statistician, Len Cook, talk about the coming population storm. An accelerating fiscal drag from an aging population.

Secret ingredients of hoopoes' stinky preen oil help them keep their feathers safe Hoopoes harbor symbiotic bacteria in their preen gland that supplement the birds' preen oil with antimicrobial compounds.

Hoopoes are beautiful #birds โ€” that can smell of rotten meat.

They do so for a good reason, though, which I reveal in my new post for Beaks & Bones! ๐Ÿงช๐Ÿชถ

If you have access to suitable venuesup to 2-3 times a year or you know of eg. pubs that would be willing to host an informal gathering of interested public (and have a jar at the same time) can you hit us up in the DMs please? The line up is exciting and we look forward to seeing you this year.

Hi everyone! We are getting ready for our 2025 lecture series most of which will be held at the Royal Society lecture theatre in Thorndon. While grateful for the parent body support, we'd also like to explore other venues in Wellington due to the high number of potential speakers.

Hi we are the Royal Society Wellington Branch in New Zealand. We'd like to get in touch with academics who may be visiting New Zealand from overseas in order to share their work with an informed public here through our lecture series. We've been around for > 140 years.

I suspect this is a long shot so I'm not sure if there will be many responses to this question, but are there any Aotearoa-based social scientists researching olfactory racism?
Failing that, any sensory ethnographers, or even health or geography researchers, focusing on colonial smellscapes?

Liquid Hydrogen @ NASA

A very interesting talk from Angela on how rockets are filled, I guess with all the focus on the rockets one doesnโ€™t think about all the supporting infrastructure,

Sadly our last lecture of the year and it was a great one, detailing the history of liquid hydrogen in space travel with an equally exciting future. It takes 5 years to train to be a NASA cryogenic fuels specialist. Much of the infrastructure remains in place since the '60s. LH2 and LO2 don't mix!

We appreciate the likes! Note our lectures are free and are often enlightening and fun. Please do pass along the details to anyone you might know in the Wellington region who may have interest.
