It’s incredible, because you literally cannot understand current affairs without knowing this. But it can’t be said aloud, so everyone just pretends it’s all weird and inexplicable.

There are other 12th albums I can name as being better than they have any right to be - "The Cure" (The Cure), "Reveal" (REM), "The Morning After" (James) - but "Old Ideas" is the only one I can think of where I don't wish it was more like the earlier stuff.

Cohen's late-life resurgence was a thing of brittle-yet-generous beauty. "Show Me The Place" and "Different Sides" are absolute belters here.
