Unpretentious professor of books and words.

28.01.2026 18:49 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm still firmly in my "Pathfinder 2e is all I want to play" phase, and probably will be for awhile...but I really look forward to trying Draw Steel when I feel I need a change. I love team-focused TTRPGs (which is part of why I love PF2e as much as I do).
20.12.2025 19:14 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It's not ideal...but I don't consider myself a part of the underclass as a Senior Lecturer. I've mostly given up on the prospect of a TT gig, despite having a bevy of all the things expected in a TT gig...but I feel happy and reasonably secure with my 100% teaching-focused appointment.
13.12.2025 21:39 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Does that make all wombats women?
13.12.2025 21:28 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0HARD agree. I've always loved Olyphant since watching Deadwood in the late 2000s, but he absolutely OWNS every scene of this series. I'm digging the show in general, but I pay extra special attention every time he's on.

06.09.2025 23:30 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It's so damn weird to me -- as a professor -- to hear this sort of rhetoric. Regardless of my politics I've never thought to stifle views I don't agree with, and while I'm sure some do, it's certainly not the norm.
24.07.2025 16:57 β π 9 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It's days like these that I love being a Shakespeare scholar on BlueSky...
18.07.2025 21:13 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0My May was boring by my standards, but as much as I hate being bored, I knew it was a good thing for my brain in the long run after nine incredibly busy months. Being bored sucks, but is also occasionally therapeutic...

13.05.2025 18:41 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Shit.
Oh! You said SWORD, not s-word. My bad.
MAL in June. Blurry, but I had lots of MAGA folks behind me so had to be sneaky...
22.12.2024 03:14 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I just posted the same thing at the same time (sans the carts-into-classrooms bit).
17.12.2024 21:23 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'm sure there were earlier things (I'm 45), but I distinctly remember the Challenger explosion. A bunch of years later it was almost nostalgic to read Richard Feynman's account of being on the committee that got to the bottom of what happened.

08.12.2024 11:04 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm glad this is all just a philosophical discussion. I don't want to claim it could never happen, but I can't see it. (And as a dual citizen, I sure as hell don't want to...)
04.12.2024 13:54 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0That's what folks said about Ukraine when invaded by Russia...
04.12.2024 13:12 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I don't believe you. You got the whole damn thing all wrong.
26.11.2024 21:18 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A lot of Harlem Renaissance...especially Claude McKay's "White Houses," and Langston Hughes's "I, Too" which pairs nicely with Whitman's "I Hear America Singing" (19th c., of course, but illustrative...)
25.11.2024 11:30 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Outer Worlds felt like it should be a MUCH bigger game. Some of the dialogue and plots are great, but the actual scope is limited...which is awfully odd for the kind of game it is.
I never bothered with RDR2 because I found RDR too tedious on PS3...
Jfc. My city of the last 7.5 years. Shameful.

12.11.2024 22:45 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0As someone in the education sector, I'm just waiting for the appointment of MTG as Secretary of Education to complete the worst possible cabinet possibilities in this, the darkest timeline...
12.11.2024 16:06 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Over on Twitter, I saw Tim Walz make a simple post that said pretty much the same thing -- sincere, earnest, unpolitical -- and he received a barrage of vitriol in response. Hope BlueSky remains vitriol-free as it grows.
11.11.2024 20:49 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Fun fact: you were the last person I followed on Twitter (mostly because your posts were always reposted!), and one of the first I followed here. Glad to see brighter horizons on Bluesky (or some decidedly funnier pun).
11.11.2024 18:46 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I think a lot of folks are still hurting (and will remain so) in the wake of the result, and this all-or-nothing fatalism is understandable...for now. If it persists in a few weeks or months, it's going to be a serious problem, but I'm hoping that for now, it's just expressed frustration.
