It's not recommended by US CDC until you're 50 (unless you have certain underlying conditions). How did you get it? Did you pay out of pocket? Curious because it's a vaccine I definitely want to get but assumed that I had to wait until I turned 50.

Every now again itโ€™s useful to repeat advice about accessing papers that are behind a paywall that excludes you. Email the author. My estimate is that 90% of academics are so thrilled that a living, breathing, possibly even reading, person shows interest that they will swiftly send you a copy.

Women are the backbone of #GlobalHealth, yet continue to face underinvestment & systemic inequality.

In their Devex op-ed, Dr. Magda Robalo and Dr. Shubha Nagesh unpack how aid cuts & rollbacks are impacting women on the frontlines, and why investing in womenโ€™s leadership is urgent: bit.ly/4ljSTQZ

Three line graphs showing invasive pneumococcal disease caused by serotype 3 in children <5, in people age 5-49, and in adults 50+. The data show serotype 3 causing 10-20 cases of IPD in children <5 each year, an increase from around 50 in 2000 to over 100 in 2023 for people 5-49 years old, and an increase from around 100 cases in 200 to well over 300 cases per year in adults 50+.

As a long-time ASM member I am deeply disappointed that ASM would cave so easily to censorship and anti-science messaging from the new administration. Your members especially those from underrepresented backgrounds deserve better.

Ok this is not ok. ASM actively sought out BMA and its members for Juneteenth and Black History month content for the last 4 years. Actively asked for black labor and then takes it down?! @asm.org this is unacceptable. You should be standing up for marginalized microbiologists not erasing them.

The importance of microbiology reference laboratories and adequate funding for infectious disease surveillance Microbiology reference laboratories perform a crucial role within public health systems. This role was especially evident during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this Viewpoint, we emphasise the importance of microbiology reference laboratories and highlight the types of digital data and expertise they provide, which benefit national and international public health. We also highlight the value of surveillance initiatives among collaborative international partners, who work together to share, analyse, and interpret data, and then disseminate their findings in a timely manner.
