If I have any followers who are attorneys I have a question: I’ve been wondering how the current political climate has impacted jury trials. Are there more hung jury’s due to polarization? Are people still able to interpret facts to make a decision? Is there a weird relationship to truth?

I recognize the irony of posting this in an echo chamber.

Some days I think it’s the moderates vs. the extremists. Some days I think it’s everyone vs the algorithm.

In moments like this I find myself wondering who will step up and address political extremism and divisiveness like Eboo Patel and @interfaithamerica.bsky.social have done with religion on college campuses for the last 20 years. Is it possible?

Anyone have tips for keeping my toddler and infant off the internet until they have fully developed frontal lobes?

Expectation: I am going to use this retreat time to think and read and write!

There are simply too many thoughts to think and not nearly enough time.

My 3-year-old is suddenly into Frozen and every time we listen to “Let it Go” she asks me, “what’s Elsa feeling?”

Unable to summarize the feeling of finally releasing one’s deepest imperfections and insecurities, I ask her “what do you think Elsa is feeling?”

She says “happy” every time.

I love this line from Tim Alberta’s book: “Today politics is changing the definition of what a Christian is. We’re setting the Bible aside and using a different standard.”

I did a survey recently that asked “should a Christian’s religion influence their politics?” And I’ve been thinking we need to reframe that question in the opposite: “should a Christian’s politics influence their religion?”

Honestly the amount of bad theology out there right now makes me want to scream.

The more time I spend on the internet, the more convinced I am that theological education is absolutely vital in our life and times.

Once you get past the platitudes and the rhetoric you’ve heard your whole life, it becomes clear that what Christians are asked to embody in the world is *so* counterintuitive it’s no wonder the rich and powerful bristle at the message.

The more I saw last week, the more convinced I became that the gospel truly is outrageous.

I would’ve paid money to watch this realization play out in real time.

For me they’ve always been one and the same

There's a mainline protestant church with a woke lady pastor within walking distance of your house. Everyone there will be thrilled to see someone under 50 at service. There's free donuts too.

So far my experience of Bluesky is that it’s very serious… not the same kind of humor as Twitter. Or maybe I haven’t curated my feed well enough yet… who should I follow for some levity?

Someone in my IG comments just said, “Franklin has drunk the Kool-Aid and called it communion.”

I can’t remember the last time I heard a line as perfect as that one.

Last week I told my therapist that I want to spend more time thinking about things like the future of Christianity in America but really, in this season of life, my brain can’t handle more than whatever is happening with Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater. Follow me if that resonates I guess? 😅
