A Tipping Point For Science and Society
To confront attacks on experts, expertise, and the rule of law, we must recommit to supporting an independent science and medical research infrastructure.
Today's large-scale termination of grants building on months of attacks on experts, expertise, data, and programs reveal the essence of this administration's priorities: dismantling America's innovation-driven economy.
We face a tipping point for science & society.

Winston Churchill at the White House wearing a one-piece garment known as a siren suit.
Zelenskyy's character can be judge more directly by how he treats others and whether you think he's protected his country. From what I've seen, he has treated Americans with respect. His attire is to remind people he's at war, not unlike Churchill wearing a siren suit to the White House in 1942.

Man on a horse wearing Filson gear. He looks rugged and is surrounded by mountains.
Many people are unable to separate clothes from character, which is how the fashion industry makes so much money. They sell you on the idea that you can be a certain person by wearing certain clothes. In reality, character is defined by actions, not clothes.

Drawing of Benjamin Frankling wearing a coonskin cap.
Franklin being received by the French court in 1778. The French are in powdered wigs.
FWIW, it's perhaps worth noting that when Benjamin Franklin visited France between 1776 and 1778 to ask for military support for the then-new-formed United States of America, he wore a coonskin cap. "Proper" French court attire at this time was a powdered wig.

Two photos: One shows Zelenskyy in a black quarter zip at the White House meeting, the other shows Elon Musk in a black graphic t-shirt, black topcoat, and black ball cap, also meeting with the Trump cabinet.
One reason why I think respectability is stupid is because it's often used as a mask. Such judgements are rarely about the clothes themselves, but more often about the bodies beneath them. To wit, no one raised an issue when Elon wore a graphic t-shirt and ball cap to meet the Trump cabinet.
