We the Men: How Forgetting Womenβs Struggles for Equality Perpetuates Inequality
On this day in 1787, thirty-nine male delegates signed the U.S. Constitution. I am delighted to be giving a Constitution Day lecture today @UCincinnatiLaw. I will be discussing my new book, We the Men: How Forgetting Womenβs Struggles for Equality Perpetuates Inequality. #WeTheMen

Phyllis Schlafly
On this day in 2016, Phyllis Schlafly died. She blocked ERA ratification in the 70s & 80s, in part by denying the persistence of discrim against women. Hereβs an article where I explore how Schlafly created a playbook that anti-feminists have followed since. #WeTheMen

Nice! Thank you! What secondary sources did you find helpful for divorce history? I am in the middle of Cott's Public Vows and Hartog's Man and wife. Also have Basch's work on divorce. Is there another work that I should look through?

Ah! Got it! That makes much more sense. I was thinking they would have a part where she moves to Indiana for a divorce. I am usually doing chores when I have the show on and I missed that part of the storyline where she wants to move to RI. Thank you!

Yes, I am in the middle of researching New York's divorce legal history for my current book project on the criminalization of abortion and the married women's property rights. So that is why this issue is popping up for me. (4)

I haven't finished episode three, so maybe that discrepancy will be cleared up. But if Charles Fane wants his wife, Aurora, to sue for divorce in New York based on his adultery, then he would most likely not be permitted to marry his mistress after the divorce. (3)

New York had one of the most restrictive divorce statutes. It permitted divorce only in the case of adultery. If that was established, it usually meant that the offending party could not remarry until the former spouse had passed away. (2)

It is amazing to watch my youngest child fall in love with history. He is home sick today and all he wants to do is talk about the American Revolution. He is 9 and already eager to understand cause and effect relationships. Watching a child grow into their sense of self is wonderful.

William Gaynor
On this day in 1913, NYC Mayor William Gaynor offered his thoughts on suffrage. He asked: βIs there any suffragette in the world who would not give up her principles for a nice man?β Harriot Stanton Blatch and other suffragists disagreed, noting the many married women in the movement. #WeTheMen

Had a huge, giant panic attack. Several hours. Have not had one that bad in a long time. Completely lost it. Starting to come back to feeling okay. Lots of tears. Horrible headache now. Amazing how my brain can switch to utter self-destruct mode when it is triggered by something.
