Yeah but the addendum is ridiculous. It basicallyhas you acknowledging that LLMs are going to use your stuff anyway and absolving JHUP from fighting to protect your intellectual property rights. We should demand an addendum that pritects the rights of the authors.

To be clear, it's JHUP, and not Chicago.

It seems like signing this is me acknowledging (and accepting) the stealing of my work without payment. My only two choices are to agree to allow them to steal my work (and pay me a few pennies), or not take the pennies but sign away my right to complain about them stealing my work?

Now received same for another book with same press. This seems wrong! Shouldn't the statement be "Author denies the right of LLM companies to steal my work and violate my copywrite."

Just received an email from publisher of one of my books trying to strongarm me into granting permission for it to be licensed for AI LLM use. My knee-jerk is "hell no." They want me to sign this disclaimer (copied in comments). Should I not be pissed at publisher for caving like this?

This is insane and a bright red line. The Federal government has no place telling a university who to hire as its leader, full stop. UVA cannot allow Trump to pressure them to axe their president or the precedent it would set would be devastating.
