Mostly photographs made while biking/hiking. Jim/James Go Cubs Banner - Graffiti reading "Do Wat feels Bien or Don’t” in Oaxaca, MX PFP - A man in a t-shirt & ball cap sits on a log facing the water on a beach. Next to him a bike leans against a palm tree.

The total blindspot people have for car violence is just mind-blowing. Kid on one of these things hits a ped "BAN THEM! BAN THEM! BAN THEM! SUE THE MANUFACTURER!" Driver in car hits ped in x-walk "Oh well, accidents happen. Ped probably wasn't looking. Gotta be more careful! Anywho what can you do?"

This would be great. My local beach, and has always blown my mind there's no bus running down there in summer. Seen drivers to stupid things and park illegally as my gf and I just pedal carefully past the endless line on our bikes.

I should have put "taught" in air quotes. Because, ick.

"Boys play at love to get sex, and girls play at sex to get love" was something my partner's HS school nurse taught the freshman girls.

My Dad tried to talk to me once about dating driving back from a Boy Scout hike when I was like 12, and I was so uncomfortable I tried to pretend to go to sleep.

I am constantly re-re-reminding myself "More music, fewer podcasts." I'll never listen to a podcast episode again, but every time I hear a song it will acrete another layer of memory, bringing meaning to something as meaningless as sitting at my desk at work, listening to a song from 30 years ago.

This is such a wonderful insight and since it was the water I swam in growing up I never thought about it being any other way, but I guess it can be, I never realized what a gift I was being given.

Every time you post one of these you send me down a rabbit hole, reminding me of bands and songs I love but forgot about in the intervening 30 years. It's awesome. I vividly remember my friend who was trying to teach me good taste in music playing this for me in his Mom's apt the first time.

If $25/year is too much, no worries. But for a lot of us, ~$2 is doable. Then pay Flaming Hydra $3/month & you get a bunch of great writing for $60/yr. I like pubs that are either collective or can pay freelancers. Assigned Media, Defector, 404Media & Welcome to Hell World are great too.

It's already bad enough that he's VP JD Vance. Him getting to be President even if by default is just too much.

In the foggy early morning dark, a two lane road with a yellow dashed center line runs in a gentle S-curve beyond the vanishing point thru a barren industrial area under streetlamps strung with power lines and suffused with a foggy glow. A chain link fence guarding an empty lot is just visible on the left and there is a For rent sign offering land on the opposite side of the road.

Don't have to worry about Black Little Mermaid or Lady Ghostbusters anymore. They'll still find something to get mad about, probably like "What do you mean I can't make an 'all the ladies are naked' version? What are you talking about 'consent'?" And yet I keeping hearing Bluesky is a bubble . . .

Between these, ring doorbells, Life360, camera phones . . . it just blows my mind the extent to which we've just willingly and eagerly 1984'd ourselves.

I carry a Patagonia duffle with padded shoulder straps & even that is a lot to carry when full. Reminds me of the ultralight backpacking trend of frameless packs until people realized that having a 16oz basic frame was worth the weight compromise when carrying even 20lbs on your back for 8 hours.

My gf bought a bag like that a decade ago from a designer friend. It sort of converted to a backpack but the straps were so thin the shoulder pain was unbearable when you’re trying to get steps in waiting for your flight. And forget carrying it on one shoulder when packed for a work trip.

Also I HATE the car brains that are so worried about missing their "turn" at the intersection they pull the "drive slowly at pedestrians" to block the intersection so another car can't go.

What would these people think if they got on the elevator with a coworker who smelled of rum & coffee at 8am? And I love riding past a dude sitting in his car at 6am wearing a hard hat & putting on his work boots while puffing away right before he goes and operates heavy machinery. All the time.

Where is your line at & why is it there? Once you start compromising on rights, no right is safe, not even yours. There’ll always be someone who thinks a right you take as inviolable is not in fact so. And there’ll be someone willing to compromise on it to preserve their own comfort. Just like you.

Listen man, if a transphobe or a nazi wants to vote to stop the fascists go for it. But if you think fascism is a lesser evil than trans people existing, if imposing your bigotry on everyone trumps every other value you hold as the condition for your vote, well then fuck off. Fix your heart or die.

In the dark early morning, a mid-sized SUV sits in silhouette parked alongside an empty two-lane road, just on the edge of a pool of light cast by the nearby streetlight, which leaves everything outside of it in dark shadow. You can see the mist of falling rain caught under the light, and a yellow pedestrian crossing sign sits are the far right edge of the frame.

The Seattle Space Needle seen from GasWork park in the dark early morning sky. It is lit up green, (I assume in honor of the Mariners even tho that looks like Supersonics green). In the foreground are three lampposts of increasing height from left to right, and telephoto compression makes the Space Needle look like it is in line with them as the tallest lamppost on the right. Lights from buildings shine at the base of the needle.

Oh well, Mariners. Not my team, but living here the excitement of the fans is a lot of fun. I didn't live in Chicago when the Cubs won, so I hope the Mariners win & I get to experience the second-hand thrill of it. That looks more like Supersonics green to me tho. Maybe my WB is off? #photography

Finally watched the John Oliver piece on the new head of CBS News, who I'd never heard speak. The unearned self-regarding smugness that just oozes from every word . . . dear god. Just the immature teenage belief that no one has ever thought such profound thoughts before. A caricature of a person.

From where I live in Seattle it's 35-40 minutes and $80-$100 to Uber to near the airport, so the $200 round trip on top of the rental makes it cost prohibitive. Transit would be a 45 minute bus followed by a 45 minute train, plus transfer time plus wait time at the rental counter.
