Ten years ago, we had the first run of the version of European rugby inflicted on us by the brain-geniuses of PRL who insisted ERC knew nothing and they’d make it bigger and better.

They had to give away tickets to the final that year. A Saracens A team just shipped 72 points.

They killed it.

Just under sixty points worse of a points different than England - the England who improved all tournament as this Irish squad started spewing black smoke and steam.

I don’t know, lads, maybe trying to play the Bok game plan of 2019 in 2025 without the 2019 Boks pace and pack mightn’t be the best.

The misuse in recent weeks of Thucycides’ Melian Dialogue- the strong do what they can, and the weak suffer what they must- annoys me. The treatment of the Melians - murdered and enslaved - prompted small Greek city states to band together with Sparta and ultimately defeat Athens. That’s the lesson.

I'm not buying Prendergast has been terrible. He's playing the exact same as he has all tournament - he's poor defensively, his primary thought is to kick the ball and Ireland going all in on him has weakened our attack overall. That's not Prendergasts fault. That's on Farrell/Easterby.

08.03.2025 16:01 β€” πŸ‘ 32    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 11    πŸ“Œ 2

This didn’t just happen today. This has been coming all season.

Well, we asked for it, and we got it. Now let those calling for what made it happen own what happened.

Because that was a hammering. A proper, no pretending it away, hammering.

08.03.2025 16:26 β€” πŸ‘ 13    πŸ” 3    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Don’t think I’ve seen Ireland bullied like that in a while. French defence demolished them and you have the best counterattacking team in the world handling the scraps.

That match was a fantastic advert for the 7-1 split. Absolutely ripped the game away from 40-60 mins.

08.03.2025 16:18 β€” πŸ‘ 33    πŸ” 3    πŸ’¬ 7    πŸ“Œ 2

The attack is very limited because players are being picked for reasons other than their primary roles.
Wingers are picked for kicking, centres are auxiliary back rows etc. so much effort to play in the red zone and then don't have the power to convert inside 22.

Scrum and lineout went fine. Offensively, we were reliant on France making a mistake or having the ref award a penalty.

France kicked to us all day long because they knew we had nothing for them on transition or post transition.

Then the power did the rest.

08.03.2025 18:29 β€” πŸ‘ 22    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Prendergast had a bad game. He's had a fairly average tournament, narrative aside. It'll stand to him in the long run.

Ireland didn't lose because of Prendergast, though.

We lost because our pack got demolished and had very little for France over the full 80 minutes in phase play.

% attack ball lost to penalties and turnovers:

IRE 18.7 FRA 13.5

% penalties lost while defending:

IRE 17.9 FRA 5.8

Overall % High Risk Events:

IRE 36.6 FRA 19.3

This Ireland side is almost unrecognisable in their discipline/security etc.
