There is such a *selfishness* to purity voters. Voting is about compromise. You take the time out of your day and vote for the best (or least worst) candidate--even if they aren't perfect.

The fact that people would rather [gestures broadly] this than to compromise is pathologically selfish.

The Break Is Over. Companies Are Jacking Up Prices Again. Higher tariffs, labor and health-insurance costs have pushed many businesses to raise prices for consumers.

According to the WSJ, the question of whether inflation is caused by "the President" or "Companies" depends on whether Biden or Trump is the President.

There will be bigger fish to fry, but when The Reckoning comes, I hope there is some space to hold to account conservatives who posted #NeverTrump for whom β€œnever” meant until it became mildly inconvenient. They created a false impression of intellectual conservative resistance that was never there.

Trump has never had juice. The GOP pols, media members, CEOs, and university presidents who claim to be scared into supporting him have always agreed with him. The fear has been an excuse since 2016.

Bold of him to give his 2028 GOP Convention acceptance speech before he has formally locked up the nomination.

There's a lot of kids in Minnesota missing. No one knows where they are. Not DHS, not ICE, not the local police, no one. They just know some masked unidentified people claiming they're police took them. No one knows where they are. And now we know who ICE is employing.

the thing that gets me about the antivoting leftists is that they don't just want to not vote. they want to not vote and have all the rest of us admit how cool and good it is. a participation trophy for laziness

This paper looks to be an exemplar of the "argument that seems self-evident but only after someone else thought of it and wrote it out" genre. It's not that the argument is obvious (derogatory) but so powerful and intuitive that you slap your forehead after reading it (laudatory). Excited to dig in!

The current Supreme Court has weaponized these "emergency" actions, issuing such orders with increased frequency in order to effectively dictate real world outcomes without having to issue formal opinions or really grapple with the merits of a case. 3/3

So these "emergency" actions (which can take various forms) are often provided with little analysis b/c the court is prioritizing speed.

Historically, courts have taken such actions sparingly, trusting trial level courts--which have much more experience with quick action--to handle them 2/3

Appellate courts, ideally, issue opinions after full argument and consideration of the issues with no real time constraints.

But sometimes an appellate court has to act quickly because the real world actions that it is being asked to prevent or allow will happen before it can issue an opinion 1/3

Anyways, dear reader, this congress has been wildly unproductive, and that includes things like appointments. The democrats have literally been as obstructive as possible in the senate and forced Thune to change the votes multiple times -after- wasting tons of time.

They're literally being worse than McConnell basically ever was. People just have this strange shibboleth in their mind because he kept the Scalia seat open, but the GOP literally had a majority in the senate wtf were you expecting

Doomerism is just a combo of self-fulfilling defeatism, counterproductive demotivation, and a lazy insistence on refusing to accept any of the facts that contradict it.

Aided, admittedly, by a media that would STILL somehow find a way to phrase a successful removal of Trump as β€œDems in disarray.”

There is value in having executive branch actors that exercise interpretive and adjudicative powers while helping their agency execute the law.

We should stop calling them judges.

They can provide a valuable service. But the term "judge" implies a neutrality and detachment that they do not have.
