It was a .pm5 file, which is a very archaic file type for a layout program that hasn't been relevant for like 20 years. I actually had to find someone online who could open it and convert it for me because my efforts were futile

WHY US ? WHY NOW?
What you are holding in your hands represents many months of work in the making. This Fanzine is a result of our devotion to the video game industry, and the systems and games it has created. What makes this fanzine so special to us is that Brian, Brent, and myself all have ties into the videogame industry. Brian is a consultant to the Atari Corporation, Along with his brother Brent they own the Gamemaster's store. I work at Babbage's and have attended five Consumer Electronic Shows, and have met with key people at the shows. I also know a programmer from E.A. who made the Toughman Contest videogame for the Genesis. Bottom line is that we know our systems!

Together we own Super NES's, Genesis, Sega CD, 3DO's, Jaguars, Japanese Saturns and Playstations, and american Saturns. While each one of us has their own personal favorites, we will all review the games together. While we can't say that our fanzine is the flashiest one on the market, we can say that GAMEBLASTERS is one of
he most honest, produced ones out there. And that is what really matters in the end!

In what could be the marketing coup of 1995 or the worst launch of SEGA history, The SATURN was released five months early on May 12, 1995 to 4 locations, Toys "R" Us, Babbage's, Electronic Boutique and Software Etc. These four chains reportedly will have an exclusive window on the system and games through July. Games released at the launch were, Daytona USA, Panzer Dragon, Clockwork Knight, Victory Cup Soccer, and Pebble Beach Golf Links. Included with the Saturn is the arcade hit Vitrua Fighter and a "Prime Cuts" demo CD. Other Accessories released were extra control pads, RF units, a six player adaptor, Ram backup cartridge and a "Virtua Stick" arcade pad. The system sells for $399 and games range in price from $40- $60.

Sega's original launch date of Sept. 2 1995 (Dubbed "Saturnday" by Sega) was pushed up for a variety of reasons: 1.) Sega had the unit and the games already manufactured, so why wait 5 more months? 2.) Sony and, at the time, Nintendo, had their units coming out during the same time span as Sega's. Sega's thinking was if the Saturn was completed, why not get in the early inititiative on sales and merchandising. 3.) Customer demand for the unit. With the magazines showing of the Japanese unit and games Sega received many calls saying, "We know the unit is ready, why not release it here now ?!" By now everyone is aware of the events at E3 : Nintendo's delaying of the Ultra 64 until April-May of 1996, and Sony's release of the Playstation on Sept. 9th. Sega's launch of the Saturn seems more of a brilliant decision now in light of these events.

In regards to the Ultra 64, Nintendo never really gave companies and press finalized specs, games, game screens, or any list of third party licensees and games for a "supposed" November launch. By making numerous promises the worst being the $250 price tag and games such as Killer Instinct and Cruisin USA exactly, if not better, than the arcade Nintendo really has a big fight on their hands.

By releasing the first batch of games on cartridge also puts them in a bind. Cartridges cost $30 to manufacture, Cd's-$2. A big example of this will be when Killer Instinct for the SNES is released in the fall around $80. Killer Instinct in the arcade runs on SGI hardware and a 180 meg hard drive. Nintendo has great games, great in- house developers, but the storage medium of the Ultra 64 will most likely become the major headache for Nintendo.

More games from Sega are in the works and will be coming out very shortly. NHL Hockey, Bug, Astal, and NBA Action should be out in the next few months. The true test of the system will be the 3rd party games and how quickly they will be released. Sega promises over 100 games available for the Saturn by Christmas of this year. If even half of these games are quality games then the Saturn will be in a universe of it's own. If not, will the Saturn burnout quicker than the SEGA CD ? With all the power that the Saturn possesses- I think not.

Right now the games available for the Saturn show off the graphic capabilities of the system more then anything else. If you are fortunate enough to own a system then the two games to purchase (If you can afford them.) are Daytona USA and Panzer Dragoon. Daytona is one of the best drivers in the arcade and in the Saturn conversion nothing major is lost. While there is some redraw during the game the gameplay doesn't overly suffer from it. Panzer Dragoon is a shooter in a 3600 environment. Daytona is reviewed later in this issue.

I discovered a floppy disk with an unfinished video game zine in a box of computer parts I bought off of fb marketplace -- only 2 pages, file dated 1995. (The one article image is in triplicate because it's too long for the all the alt text!)
