Stories created with love will breed empathy. They will give us opportunities to imagine ways to build connection, to work through conflict or breakdown of communication.

Protect the Child is a story I am telling because I needed to find a way to give happy endings to kids I met in childhood. It's also a way to help me find resolution for parents that I needed to see grow and change.

I'm thinking a lot about this as it relates to media I've been consuming lately. The storytelling that has connected with me intensely is the story that is told with such obvious love for the people it depicts.

I posted a similar sentiment on Tumblr but I think it bears repeating here:

I think right now we need more stories that we tell for the sake of the people we love.

Gilded City Treaties, by Thomas, is 2-3 player game in which you play diplomats vying for the attention of the most powerful man in your city. It's mostly improv and roleplay, so if you like very little structure and mostly an excuse to get into fictional negotiations, maybe check it out!

Interregnum, by Kera Vortiwife, uses hands of blackjack in a game where the person who loses takes the most ruin - so in other words, as long as you don't lose the hardest, you're still in the running for power. If you like doomed people who deserve it? Try this one.

Human Ambassadors, by FUNEONE Games, is here for the sci-fi lovers who also want to consider the political consequences of a bad handshake. Attempt to impress visiting alien dignitaries with incomplete information - great for high stakes games but also for comic situations!

Of course, one can't forget Court of Blades, by @acoupleofdrakes.bsky.social! One of the prettiest games by far, this political intrigue game is a Forged-in-the-Dark homage to some of our favourite warring families from history and literature.
