The Finch Interested Me | Donovan Hohn
In memory of Lewis H. Lapham.
โLewis hoped his namesake magazine would survive him. He believed it could and should survive him โฆ We believe LQ should live on because there is no magazine like it in American letters.โ Read LQ acting editor Donovan Hohn on LQ founding editor Lewis Lapham. www.laphamsquarterly.org/roundtable/f...

These Founding Fathers Were Frenemies. Maybe We Can Learn Something.
Great to see Monticello's work featured in the New York Times today.
"Monticello is asking a question: Can leaning into the messy, complicated, nasty, origins of our partisan political system save us?"

Opinion | LeBron James, father and son
As his incomparable career enters another transition, King James places fatherhood front and center.
"LeBronโs coming of age as a father who grew up without one himself is the most compelling part of this story. No one hands you the bible of fatherhood when you become one; there is no Fatherhood University at which you can earn an advanced degree."

A few years ago, researchers in Madison, WI contacted me to ask to be put in touch with descendants of Eston Hemings Jefferson, youngest son of Jefferson and Sally Hemings. They wanted to work w descendants to restore his headstone. Today, I learned from that the headstone has been restored.

Historians occasionally make fun of Jefferson for alleging that some Americans wanted a king, or something like a king. That strain of thinking was real and, apparently, never went away.
