Do you eat beef? Have you flown on a plane in the past year? Do you drive a pickup? If you do, then all of these are worse than $1100 of AI token.

Are datacenters bad for local communities? Yes. Are they keeping coal plants active? Yes. Are they boiling the ocean? Obviously no.

They are admitting it’s unreviewed and not encouraging you to use it.

My strategy is hop to whatever model is best in the toolset I like the most. Most of the significant differences are not in which model, or which harness or toolset, but in which model generation. As long your on the latest version of whatever model you like, the rest is implementation details.

And then you realize that, after the long conversation you just had with your other friend, where they barely said a word, that you are their disheveled singularitan friend and you just paid it forward. It’s all relative.

I definitely have background FOMO 100% of the time. You kind of have to just cope with it. Sometimes it pushes me to try something new. But mostly it’s just unhealthy spiralling. I have to work to forgive myself for touching grass with my kids sometimes.

This is legit. There’s a balance to be found here. I don’t think 100% Claude written code is a good idea. You gotta try things yourself from time. Like back in the day we wanted CTOs, TLs, architects who still coded. Now you’re the CTO, TL, architect. And you’ll be better at it if you still code too

Valuing people over profits means sometimes prioritizing output and sometimes prioritizing quality. But always a bit of both.

I think if we value humans and their time and effort. Our colleagues, our clients, and end users. Then we *should* vibe a qol tool to help each other work faster AND we should *not* vibe prod code in order to keep quality and UX high for our users.

I’m curious if how you think we can actually build an equitable system.

Fascinating thread. Thanks for writing it. As a DT I’m trying to guide my team in responsible adoption. Really wrestle with the impact of 5k+ loc vibe coded PRs. For prod code? Never, you gotta own every line. But internal qol tools? Maybe, but it’s worth letting reviewers off the hook

I know that I won’t retain it. I know it’s not helping me make better software. That’s a problem I’m going to have to reckon with and I’ll have to turn off the machine from time to time. But that’s fine if my wife now has a book app she’s been asking for for a year. Trade offs ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

There are things that I want to learn how to build and things I want to have built. So many little side projects and silly tools and custom software for friends and family are now possible precisely because I /don’t/ have to learn anything in order to make it.

I thought this was me. But realistically I liked both. So yes, I’m potentially losing one thing I love. But the potential for making things I’d never actually make is somewhat balancing things on the other side. It’s bitter sweet every time I get an agent to build something good.

I do think MCP is overkill most of the time. But it opens some security scenarios that wouldn’t be possible otherwise.

But if you want to restrict an agent. Maybe not give them shell access at all. Or it doesn’t have a shell to access (web chat bots), then MCP lets you give them tools without making them a full user of your system.

Yep you’re right. I thought about this a few minutes after I posted that. I think most of the time just read files, write files, and execute shell commands is all an agent needs to do pretty much anything.

MCP lets you hide things from your agent. You can auth with your MCP server directly and never share any secrets with your agent.

And you can also introduce extra layers. I just added a screener AI (w/o tools) between my agent and my email so I can’t get prompt injected with a simple email message

This is honestly the most insane (in a good way) oss project I’ve ever seen! People are like, I want this, and then they are encouraged to make it, and then it gets merged, and they make the world a little bit better line by line. Absolutely friggen amazing!

I like “safety nets over guard rails”. Let them run amuck but catch em when they fall. Promote agency, responsibility, and accountability. And most of all for leaders: be humble
