If you give a dam about drought mitigation, water quality, wildlife habitat, salmon restoration, carbon sequestration, & wildfire resilience, then every day is #InternationalBeaverDay. April 7 just happens to be the occasion on which we formally acknowledge the debt we owe our semiaquatic saviors. 🙏

harvest day the logistics & tenderness of it all

yesterday was harvest day. i share a bit about it here ....

I feel like we need to form a League of Relatively Normal People, and our agenda should be things like:

--Canada's cool, leave them be
--Lot of smart people at universities, that's a plus
--We're scared of getting cancer, so let's research it
--Fewer floods and wildfires would be nice

I spent a lot of time today writing… mostly about what it means to have been in this home for 5 full years.

I spent all that time writing, planning to share it with you, and then I went out to the barn, and sat with the sheep. and I cried...

books are important. history is important. considering the lives & lived experience of others is important. empathy, story, love, diversity, truth … important. real leaders know this. good people know this. good books live this, by example.

this is my 3rd year lambing, and each year, it seems, somebody picks me out to be their friend. last year it was OWL. this year it’s KRONK. he misses no opportunities for a neck scritch or a nose-boop kiss. & I think that’s just about the best thing ever.

It took seeing adult bullies to understand that my childhood bullies didn’t even really want to hurt me, they just wanted to feel powerful and how I felt about it wasn’t even in the equation.

I can’t imagine someone not outgrowing that, but apparently it happens quite a lot!
