After illegally freezing $7 billion of federal funds to the Department of Education a day before it was set to be distributed, the Trump Administration released the rest of the $5.5 billion after facing bipartisan backlash. Thank you for supporting public school teachers and our students.

STAAR tests don't understand students best; teachers do. Tests can be meaningful tools to improve instruction and student learning, but STAAR doesn’t do this. It is not helping students learn and forces talented educators to abandon meaningful lesson plans to teach to the test.

After HB 4 proposed replacing the STAAR test died during the regular session, Gov. Abbot included abolishing the STAAR test on his agenda for the special session. TSTA urges the Legislature to get rid of the STAAR test and the A-F school accountability system, largely based on STAAR scores.

The 2025 Jumpstart Cohort members kicked off their two-year National Board Certification journey with TSTA at our weeklong introductory workshop. The intensive, comprehensive seminar supports folks on the rigorous and rewarding path to pursuing their National Board certification.

Appeals court orders release of Uvalde school shooting records Eighteen news organizations including The Texas Tribune have been seeking the records since 2022, when 19 children and 2 teachers were killed at Robb Elementary School.

After vetoing 26 bills during the regular legislative session, Governor Greg Abbott called a special session starting today, June 21. Legislators will have 30 days to address Abbott's agenda including improving flood response, redrawing Texas' congressional districts, and replacing the STAAR test.
