I've had a request on Facebook to upload my Ancestry DNA results to FTDNA to see if my DNA matches with others in a particular surname project. How secure is FTDNA? I'm not too worried about how old my surname is but am mildly intrigued #DNA #familyhistory

Very pleasantly surprised today to find my father's army service record in a new release by Ancestry. I now just need someone who can guide me round those cryptic army abbreviations.

Obviously adding little to this discussion but many years ago I worked for an insurance co with business on the Isle of Man. One day I rang the tax office and said I was ringing from the mainland. The lady at the other end pointed out that THEY were the mainland - we were the big island to the east.

I've been finding details about my father's racing past in the 1930s, 40s & 50s. I've found so many races he rode in but, luckily for me, he only worked for 3 trainers. There seems to be little historical information for this 'industry', unless it's about the famous owners and trainers.

Is there anyone who has knowledge of #nationalhunt racing history in the UK? My father was a jockey in the 1950s and I'd like some information about some of the races/courses he was involved. Maybe some photo recognition too. #familyhistory

I've just watched a few minutes (couldn't take any more) of a colourised version of 'Scrooge', the one with Alistair Sim. It was awful, the definition had all gone from the film. There are many things which can't be improved/enhanced and this is one.

I don't know if it will happen. But don't forget that the party in power who will be making the law also receive political donations. Do you think they'd pass a law depriving themselves of income without a handy exemption or two?

That could explain it although it'd have to be weighed to be sure. It looks to be a good size, as I said, and I'll keep feeding it for as long as it takes. We had smaller ones a couple of months ago but I haven't seen the for a while & they came from a different direction

Well past what I thought was the time for hibernation the food I was putting out was still being eaten. My sister told me it could be young hogs who didn't hibernate. So, to be sure, we bought a camera and found a lone hedgehog paying a regular visit. It's not a young one from what I can see.
