I do not forgive. Nor forget. and if anything radicalized me on topics like free software and digital rights, then it is this story. Kid just wanted taxpayer funded researchpapers to be free and publicly available.

Three-part bone comb set: a narrow, ornamented central case with dense ring-and-dot decoration, flanked by two single-row combs with very fine, partly broken teeth, all hanging vertically from a simple round metal suspension ring against a dark background.

Two finely crafted bone combs from the early 6th c. AD, found in a grave at Dittigheim. To protect their delicate tines, they were carefully kept in a custom-made case. In the Early Middle Ages, long, well-groomed hair was more than a fashion choice, it was a symbol of status and identity. 1/2

Pile of silver coins.

NEW Coins from the Nietulisko Małe Hoard, one of the largest hoards of Roman coins found in Poland. Digitisation of almost 3000 denarii from the hoard helped document them and the database will hopefully be publicly available soon.

Evidence from Tinshemet Cave in Israel suggests behavioural uniformity across Homo groups in the Levantine mid-Middle Palaeolithic circa 130,000–80,000 years ago - Nature Human Behaviour The Middle Palaeolithic of southwest Asia witnessed interactions and knowledge sharing between archaic and modern humans ~130,000–80,000 years ago. These interactions led to increased behavioural comp...

"Findings indicate a uniform behavioural set: similar lithic technology, increased reliance on large-game hunting & socially elaborated behaviours (intentional burial, ochre use in burial contexts). We suggest this is due to intensified interpopulation interactions between Homo groups 130–80 ka."🧪

Part of a page of a medieval manuscript that had a hole cut into it. Underneath it is a restoration of a large decorated B, which would have been in this place, and which was restored by Eliza. The letter emulates the medieval style of script, but the image inside it is in a late 18th century style, showing a verdant tree standing against a green bucolic landscape.

In the 1790s a London woman named Eliza Denyer developed a modest reputation as a restorer of medieval manuscripts. She was forgotten by scholars and, in one case, her restorations were deliberately replaced by a man’s. I recovered her story & tracked all her known work here: tinyurl.com/2ktztx2e
