1. The drugs will re-shape the food environment, which is what got us into this mess. Regulation can't do it, but when demand changes, supply changes.

2. Losing weight on these drugs is having a profound effect on people's lives. Sure, healthier. But also happier.

Ozempic is changing how we spend money and time, plus what we eat As people’s bodies change because of GLP-1s, so does their spending across industries including fashion, restaurants, gyms and travel.

The GLP-1s are changing everything.

Food, clothes, travel and more - everyone's retooling for consumers eating less, and eating better.

The two biggest, most important takeaways?

I know! It's very wonky. If you read the paper, it gets clearer. But the non-statistician takeaway is that results do not point to large, unequivocal improvements in the cognitive outcomes measured. And please don't ask me to explain Bayes Factor!

Exercise is still great! For a million reasons. But it doesn't seem to affect cognitive factors so much. (Although some evidence for sub-groups.)

This is kind of startling.

New meta-analysis (still a preprint) of the effect of exercise on cognition, memory, & executive function finds lots of heterogeneity & publication bias.

Doesn't seem to be as beneficial as was often reported.

Senator Kelly is correct.

Plus a Public Service Announcement:

KEY section of Department of Defense's Law of War Manual is 18.3.2.1.

The VERY rule on the "requirement" to refuse illegal orders gives as its paradigmatic example of what is "clearly illegal:
"orders to fire upon the shipwrecked."

It's actually enraging. It's completely acceptable in scientific/academic circles for a person who sells "therapeutics" to say with a straight face that "we have never claimed causation". There is a level of dishonestly here just out in the open for anyone to see, and yet.

The U.S. Transportation Department is urging air passengers to be on good behavior Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy wants air travelers to be nice this holiday season. A new DOT campaign asks passengers to help each other and thank flight attendants.

So civility *is* important?

One of my big problems with the DGAC is that the authors believe they can link small changes in nutrient intakes to health outcomes & I think we can't. Yes, beans are great! More nutritious than just about any protein source. But anything more specific is pretending we have info we just don't have.

24.11.2025 21:54 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

We'll have to agree to disagree there, my friend. I don't think we have anything close to enough evidence to pinpoint effects of that kind of change in a complex dietary pattern. Basically, less sat fat and more fiber are good. Beyond that, it's basically a guess.
