It was right to, probably. It’s not as easy a movie. I loved it! But definitely spent time thinking afterwards 🙏

The things I saw feel like they don’t and couldn’t even exist anymore. The world has changed so much. And since so few people were there, it’s so hard to have a past reality that so few people share.

I spent a lot of time living in two worlds:
1) the Normal World, where the status quo felt absolutely insane and deeply uncomfortable and miserable to me
2) the Abnormal, subcultural world— where I felt both more free and more afraid, where there were rules but a heightened strangeness

It was so Not Talked About that there was nobody for me to reality check with, no real ability to ask “Hey is this person being normal, or antisocial?” You were either In it or Totally Out. This is pre 50 Shades of Grey, before there were online dating profiles the same way where you would share it.

Seeing Pillion brought up memories and I feel like I need a support group for “people who were in the kink scene at the turn of the internet era and were younger than everyone there when they were going” and……it’s an uncommon category for a reason………

Even when a movie is wonderfully made, carefully shot, and has slow and deliberate and good storytelling, my sensory system just kind of explodes for a day or two after. This is unfortunately why I can’t watch more movies than I do. Still so glad I saw it. Still thinking about it.

Can’t stop thinking about Pillion and also am reminded why I rarely go see movies, because I get so overstimulated I usually have trouble sleeping the night after

If you make something popular enough eventually you will die or sell it off and and a person in thick rimmed glasses whose main artistic vision is that he loves to have meetings will take it and sandblast it until it's nothing. I hate to see this happen here but maybe it's good that this happened. Maybe every franchise should collapse into a version of itself that makes shareholders nod and shake each others' hands. We should learn to speak in a language that rich people who don't dream can't comprehend.

and the fact that the sex wasn't the shocking part of the movie!! it was the interpersonal nuances!!!! AAAAA !! <3

Also I cannot stress this enough: it was one of the most explicit films I have ever seen in a theater.

I don't want to say anything more but also I do feel nervous recommending literally any movie bc I'm afraid that people will take a recommendation as "this movie is easy and i will love it and it won't be difficult" and that is NOT true so. yeah.

To see a movie like this right now, especially with the kind of work I may want to make in the future, and my own personal history with these kinds of communities… It was truly meaningful.

This movie reminded me that I do actually like some movies. I am just so spectacularly picky and like a very particular kind of slow and careful and close storytelling. I loved it. It went deep in a lot of ways. Don’t see it with family.

Pillion was absolutely excellent. After so much time being frustrated reading and seeing shallow stuff around…I went and saw a movie that was slow, careful, nuanced, difficult, and thoroughly adult. I loved it. It surprised me. I don’t want to spoil a thing more.
