Here’s an annotated version of our comet image.

We also want to thank our downlink and uplink teams who spent a huge amount of time working on this. Our camera was not designed to image interstellar objects 19 million miles away, but their hard work and planning paid off.

On July 3rd, astronaut Nichole Ayers photographed a gigantic jet from the ISS. These rare upward directed electrical discharges extend ~90-100 km high into the mesosphere.

The jet originated from a thunderstorm over Northern Mexico, with city lights from South Texas and the green airglow layer visible along Earth’s limb.

I processed this image from the RAW file, adjusting the color profile, white balance and contrast and applied Lightroom's machine learning denoise with low strength.

The RAW was provided to me by Frankie Lucena, his analysis of the event, correlating it to measurements from the Geostationary Lightning mapper and ELF-VLF radio signals can be found here: spaceweathergallery2.com/indiv_upload.php?upload_id=224355

Saturn passing behind the Moon on the morning of Sept 17, 2024. Also resolved are Saturn's moons Titan (left) and Tethys (right). Imaged with 14" LX200 Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope at f/10 from La Crescenta, California. Note that Saturn detail was enhanced by blending a sharpened stack of images captured immediately prior to the occultation.

This is footage taken earlier today of the eye of Hurricane Melissa.

The entire view is remarkable, of the core of one of the strongest Atlantic basic hurricanes in recorded history, and a catastrophic hit to Jamaica and the central Caribbean.

Saturn peeking out from behind the Moon.

Photographed by Paul Stewart (astrostew.bsky.social) on 14 May 2014, this scene is a composite of three images given the vastly different brightness levels of the Moon and Saturn when viewed from Earth.

At the time, Saturn was 1.625 billion km from Earth.

Stunning image captured, at Arches National Park in Utah, by photographer Zach Cooley on 28 October 2020 when the Moon was in waxing gibbous phase with an illumination of 91%.

Precisely, 91% was the percentage illuminated by the Sun.
