Comet C/2025 R2 SWAN Seestar

Comet C/2025 R2 SWAN Seestar

Comet C/2025 R2 (SWAN) from a few nights ago. It comes by here every 650 or so years. It’s in a really β€˜starry’ part of the sky now which makes it extra nice.

2 1/2 minutes of 10 second images, processed with Siril and a touch up in cosmic clarity.

Heart of Gas...the Heart Nebula, a big area of gas and dust shaped like a heart and reddish in color in the constellation Cassiopeia. It's as big as 4 full moons but unfortunately too dim to see without a camera.

I've been collecting pictures of stars with my telescope the last little while. I have over 200 now. This is one of my latest ones, Muliphein in Canis Major. I think the all the background stars and their colors look pretty cool.

The seestar was a trooper tonight, spent 5 hours out in < -5 degrees C weather, captured images of 32 stars, no problems whatsoever. The only reason we stopped was clouds.

I love the stories behind the constellations. The Greeks and many others saw whole soap operas playing out before their eyes in the skies each season.

I didn’t have any set process for this. I created a FIT file from a raw video and played around with it in Siril and Photoshop until it looked ok. I tried to get some of the moons in too but then Jupiter washed out.

Now that would be a challenge with the Seestar. Pickering’s triangle fits nicely within the FOV, maybe add that next clear night.
