Self-advocates in Athens, Greece ๐ฌ๐ท came together for #HearOurVoices2025.
In Greece, people with intellectual disabilities can still lose their right to vote. Voting is often not accessible.
People with intellectual disabilities want to vote and must have the support to do so.
๐ช๐ช In Estonia, self-advocates came together ahead of the local elections to ask politicians questions.
22 people with intellectual disabilities had the chance to speak directly with candidates.

Everyone has a right to choose if they want to have a family or not.

Cypriot self-advocates came together (for the first time!) to speak up on love, family & relationships.

And yet, they try.
In 11 countries, people with intellectual disabilities have no or very little freedom of choice about their reproductive health.
They have the right to make their own choices about relationships and family, just like everybody else.

EU countries say EU countries need to do more on the right to live independently.
That is correct. But will actions follow?

Mariam Berikelashvili, self-advocate from Georgia, speaks into a microphone and says: I'm 22 years old and want to be seen as an adult woman - with feelings, dreams, and goals. I want to live independently and work with children.

Ms. Berikelashvili is not alone with her call for change. The right of people with intellectual disabilities to live independently and to work are still not respected in many countries in Europe.
