This one is actually borrowed from Heraclitus - en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heracli...

The general idea is that the river itself changes and so does the person crossing.

I just remembered that I recorded this video that’s on Instagram where I talk a bit about this:

Jay McDaniel uses 3 simple ideas as an intro that I really like:
1. No one crosses the same river twice
2. No person is an island
3. All living beings have value

Great question! How much time do you have? Lol.

The one liner is that process thought is all about change. If a more classic approach puts the emphasis on static entities then process inverts that and
focuses on the constant flow of events - becoming over being in one sense.

remember this; try

if the things some people are trying look useless or stupid to you maybe they are, find something that seems smart. and keep an eye on whether or not the shit other people are trying works.

Warning - Bridges live at Roadburn 2017
YouTube video by Starry Eyed Lizard Warning - Bridges live at Roadburn 2017

It’s Sunday and I’m listening to mournful doom metal again.

I’ll never grow tired of the last few minutes of Warning’s β€œBridges” - the raw sounds of a heart cracking open and spilling out as old wounds are seen in a fresh light.

5x5 collage of the last week of listening in album covers .

I know people traditionally share these on Friday, but I always forget, lol. Monday morning seems more natural to me. The previous week had ended, a new week is about to get started. Anyway, here’s what I listened to last week - spoiler alert: it was a LOT of Frodus.

09.03.2025 17:06 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

We are so far away from all of this, but at the very least it gives us a goal to aim for.

09.03.2025 16:08 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

The basic values of democracy are:

#LIBERTY
#EQUALITY
#JUSTICE

All theee are needed, and equality is the foundation for liberty and justice to actually flourish.

Efficiency is a tool that almost GUARANTEES growing inequality unless it is subservient to resilience & effectiveness in a democracy.

09.03.2025 16:08 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The goal DOGE is aiming for has absolutely nothing to do with the basic aims of democracy. Unfortunately society has bought the lie that efficiency is a democratic value. It is not. It is a value held by the oligarchs who want to extract as much as possible.

09.03.2025 16:08 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

It’s only with a backdrop of resilience that we can start talking about effectiveness, and that requires a clear understanding of our shared goal.

It’s only after we have achieved effectiveness of a clear goal that we can seek to make that more efficient.

09.03.2025 16:08 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

This leads to the opposite of resilience.

We get brittleness instead of flexibility and adaptability.

We get a fragile system where we need redundancy.

We get single homogenous streams where we need diversity.

We get isolation instead of the interconnectedness that keeps us all in it together

09.03.2025 16:08 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Starting with efficiency does the opposite of this.

It allows us to optimize for profit and value in isolation without consideration for who might be negatively impacted. It imposes the fallacious idea that economics is a β€œscience” and should be free of value judgements.

09.03.2025 16:08 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Resilience requires a clear picture of what we need to protect and why.

Ground zero should be the most vulnerable elements of our society. Whatever we do, we should ensure that our system has the redundancy, flexibility, diversity and interconnectedness to ensure that those elements are protected.

09.03.2025 16:08 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Because of that basic premise, I would argue the most important of these three ideas is resilience.

We live in a connected and complicated world and building resilient systems that can weather unexpected changes is more important than ever.

09.03.2025 16:08 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

This is completely upside down.

The government is not a business. It’s not a for profit enterprise. It’s not a value extraction mechanism to be leveraged by the machinations of multi-national corporations.

The government exists to provide protection and well-being for those who live here.
