Is there a maximum classroom temperature? - Edapt Maximum classroom temperatures can be a hot topic for discussion during the summer months. GOV.UK explains that during working hours the temperature in all indoor workplaces must be reasonable.

β˜€οΈIs there a maximum classroom temperature?

edapt.org.uk/support/know...

🏫The School Premises (England) Regulations 2012 (which applies to maintained schools) do not specify maximum classroom temperatures for any parts of a school.

With neither union’s red lines seemingly met, formal ballots remain a possibility.

Lots of detail still to come though as the experts like
@theifs.bsky.social dig further into the numbers.

The @nasuwt-official.bsky.social has also indicated that if the pay award is not fully funded, it will move to ballot members for industrial action as reaffirmed at its 2025 annual conference.

And what about teacher pay and the unions?
The Spending Review doesn’t fully fund the teacher pay deal, a key concern for unions.
@neunion.bsky.social General Secretary
@danielkebedeneu.bsky.social told @labouroutlook.bsky.social yesterday:

11.06.2025 14:00 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

A 5% efficiency target for the DfE may hold surprises.
'Efficiencies' often look like cuts from the front line.
We don’t yet know which programmes might be scaled back and how that might impact schools.

11.06.2025 14:00 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

A new SEND white paper is expected in the autumn.
This may shift funding responsibilities in future, but without legislation, changes are likely years away, not immediate.

11.06.2025 14:00 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Staff pay, SEND, and energy will likely absorb most of the uplift.
The partial funding of the 4% teacher pay award, rising demand in SEND, and ongoing energy costs will limit flexibility in school budgets.

11.06.2025 14:00 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Capital spending ticks up briefly, then flattens.
It increases to Β£8.3bn in 2026–27, before falling back to Β£7.7bn annually.
This is a modest real-terms increase (assuming low inflation), but doesn’t expand the school rebuilding programme dramatically.

11.06.2025 14:00 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

The DfE is neither a big winner nor a big loser.
The schools budget will rise by Β£4.5bn by 2028–29, as previously reported.
However, inflation and existing commitments (e.g. teacher pay) will erode significant parts of this uplift.

What does the Spending Review mean for schools?

There’s a lot to digest, but here are some early takeaways on what it means for schools.

Have you seen the new Robinsons ad?
πŸ“Ί www.youtube.com/watch?v=sO6P...

A teacher calls home about behaviour. The parent laughs it off. Meant as a joke, but it landed badly. With behaviour a real challenge, undermining teacher authority feels out of step & it appears to have backfired with teachers.

Interesting discussion on @ttradioofficial.bsky.social this weekend about the role of unions. Edapt was founded in 2011 to support teachers who wanted protection without campaigning. Unions matter, but they’re not for everyone and teachers should have a real choice and they do!
