My ex wife (who had lived in France and spoke French) asked for a Chenin Blanc in a pub in England (and pronounced it correctly, but in an English accent). The English barman "what are you after? Oooh, right, you mean chennon blaan"

Step 2. Put nice hot cup of tea down down for a sec and do some more work. Completely forget tea exists.

Step 3. Re-discover cold cup of tea ~1 hour later.

Can confidently place "landing with bad cross winds and having to do a go-around" in my list of things I do not enjoy.

My 9-year-old made up a story about a spy, who comes across as quite a suave and adventurous character. She also made up a name for it, which she swears she's never heard before and has made up. The spy is called Clive Anderson 🤣

Polo and shorts in summer or polo and chinos year-round... equally as smart - in fact more smart - than a shirt and tie and branded blazer that are rumpled from the floor-drobe, and more practical & comfortable. I do think secondary uniforms could stand being more like primary ones

...but despite my sympathy with the traddier side of the education compass, I do think being employable is something I'd want for my own kids, and therefore want it for other people's kids. So I put it about halfway along..

I think in part it's vibes. I'd expect BTHBTAS to be #1 as it's a meme/axiom for those of us on edusky of a traddier persuasion (probably the majority), and 'get a job' to be last as (rightly) reacting against utilitarian perspectives on education is also popular

I do find that when I read @stephenkb.bsky.social on education I usually a) agree and b) get the sense he knows what he's talking about, and understands the main debates in the sector. Don't often get that from journos who aren't specialists on the education beat.

Ecologically too. I could do without whatever the 2050s have in store climate wise when I'm a septuagenarian.

I've thought for a while that I wouldn't mind living out my entire adult life in a world technologically and sociologically frozen in about 2006.
