The YARC is a good assessment, but I think it is a bit detailed for use as she describes. It needs to be delivered 1:1 and takes about 30mins if it is used properly.
It is also quite old now, so the standardisation is out of date.
For the purpose she describes the NGRT would be better.

Melt the ICE Hat pattern by Paul S Neary
In the 1940βs, Norwegians made and wore red pointed hats with a tassel as a form of visual protest against Nazi occupation of their country. Within two years, the Nazis made these protest hats illegal...
Time for some new #knitting. Just downloaded this pattern for a Norwegian Resistance Hat, originally protesting against the Nazis in WW2, now repurposed as a 'Melt the ICE' statement. But please someone, tell me a good rebellious wool to get. I am tricoteuse. TY π§Ά

Letβs be honest here, Ofsted was a stick fashioned by Thatcher to beat teachers with.
It appealed to the prejudices of people who hated the fact they were told off by a teacher. The term βfailing teachersβ appeared in papers at the same time. Blaming schools for the failures of govt.
16.02.2026 12:41 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0
Agreed. But it should/could have evolved over the years. The fact that it is still a stick to hit schools with, after everything that has happened is depressing and shows a remarkable lack of imagination.
It is a remarkably unsophisticated tool.

The problem with that is, how many inspectors would be able to advise a school on its development. Inspectors increasingly are ticking boxes which the software can then base a report on.
School improvement partners were an attempt to do this, but the process became βhow to get a good reportβ.
16.02.2026 11:59 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0
I agree- co-constructing a report that focuses on development is a completely different skill set than following a toolkit line by line. It is, imo, a more valuable exercise. Certainly, it is more humane.
But, it would involve a shift in ethos and culture in the system and the process.

I am pleased this issue with the new framework has finally been noticed. It is ridiculous to use national averages in this way.
As a side note, anyone reading this would not realise that 95% of the teaching profession are female. Not a single woman quoted.

It is interesting how this attitude pervades lots of the education fads of the past 10yrs or soβ¦
Children donβt have the right vocab, they donβt speak in the right way, they havenβt read the right books, they donβt have the right knowledge, they donβt behave in the right wayβ¦

Of course this is blatantly untrue.

Firstly, I think there needs to be a larger group of education attracted to Bluesky.
I donβt really use LinkedIn, but perhaps those who do, could invite people over to Bluesky and introduce them to Edusky?

How do we get more people to join here and discuss?

To be clear: no one should be banned
But the simple fact remains that too many adults are the ones putting children at risk online. I had to report a local school to the LADO today for what they are posting online. The issue is the lack of public digital rights education.

And the effort that schools put in daily and for an inspection deserves individual consideration, not whatever copilot says
16.02.2026 10:47 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0
Agree completely.
I think the reports should be co-constructed, between the inspectors and the school leadership.
Inspection should be a genuine attempt at school development, not the power game it is at the moment.
16.02.2026 10:54 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
Iβm sure they do. I think they have used comment banks for a long time. Itβs obvious if you read quite a few reports.
I suspect it is an attempt to create some level of reliability across reports. But it js ridiculous.
Reports are qualitative documents.

Of course! Drama classes excepted. If you chose to do it, thatβs great.
It is when it is a forced situation, such as a job interview, that it is problematic. π

I use a kind of role play where I ask someone to volunteer to swear at me so that I can demonstrate the danger of asking rhetorical questions. I think as a presenter utilising these drama techniques can be really valuable. I would never force an audience to do it but role play isn't inherently bad.
16.02.2026 09:09 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0
Agreed. But role play in training can be childish and patronising.
It was in the interview I had. I mentioned it, when I was asked for feedback on the interview process. The interviewer was quite embarrassed. He knew it was dreadful.
It is ridiculous to appoint on the basis of acting.
