The Company Quietly Funneling Paywalled Articles to AI Developers “You shouldn’t have put your content on the internet if you didn’t want it to be on the internet,” Common Crawl’s executive director says.

"Common Crawl has opened a back door for AI companies to train their models with paywalled articles from major news websites. And the foundation appears to be lying to publishers about this..." www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

If ChatGPT is not consistently dependable, how are we suppose to use it for actual work?
Discussion
It's behavior and results can randomly change due to some OpenAl tweaking that's opaque.
On some days it can't even keep track of a fresh chat, it can't do calculations, it can't sort through a chat to extract relevant information, and when it's suppose to refer to source material in a PDF, it doesn't.
All because OpenAl trained it for fluency and basically to simulate whatever it can for user satisfaction.
I can use it for general chats, philosophical stuff, therapy, but nothing serious. I'm pro Al, but I approach it with skepticism knowing it's undependable (as I do with anything I read).
And prompts can be interpreted/executed differently across users' own interaction with their Als so it's not truly scalable.
How does the business world / leaders expect staff to adopt Al if it's not consistently dependable? It doesn't even calculate like a calculator. If the internet start claiming 2+2=5, that's what it'll answer with.
I'd use it for hobbies and pet projects but I can't imagine using it for anything "mission critical".

😢 I am so sorry for your loss. My Lucy passed last April. I’m still very sad, but it gets better, albeit slowly.

Let yourself grieve for her. Farewell, Sweet Sofi.

Column: Where are the shows about regular people fighting back? A heist to erase student loan debt is at the center of the novel “The Payback.” Why isn’t Hollywood making similar stories?

I had a great conversation with @ninametz.bsky.social of the Chicago Tribune about my novel The Payback and why there should be more television where regular people band together to fight systems much bigger than themselves.

I would pay a boatload of money for someone to teach my corgi Clyde or Claudia’s corgi Gracie to do this. But I think only Gracie would be adventurous enough to take to it

This seems to be the primary use case, outside of highly specialized, repetitive tasks required for scientific data measurement.

A massive con.
