As someone who works in the field and has listened to QAA since 2019 this was a really disappointing episode to listen to. There are some valid critiques of disinfo research but I feel like Jutel didn’t address any of them. There are some problematic orgs but @bellingcat.com is not one of them.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics is a famously independent, nonpartisan office that publishes objective data and guards their independence fiercely. Trump fired Erika McEntarfer for not cooking the employment numbers to make him look better. He’s sending a signal to the rest of the government.

And yet we all must persevere to stand up against the threats facing independent media in the US. There's simply no other position to take if we care about our democracy.

My very first job after grad school was at CPB. I spent nearly half of my career in public media.

Between CPB/NPR/PBS rescissions and the recent downsizing at the DFRLab due to federal cuts, it's hard not to feel like my life's work is being dismantled.

Resilience is tough on days like this.
