As a longtime fan of both the RPi 400 & 500... I'm worried they've jumped the shark here. Identical to 500 except for twice the RAM, big SSD and fancy keyboard, but over double the price. The whole appeal of RPi is the price, and I don't need any of those 3 things on my 500. So, who is this for? π€

Back in the day I bought a spindle of 100 cheap CD-Rs which was perfect for my, ahem, legit gaming needs. SD cards, even low capacity ones, are WAY more expensive. I feel like this is a bit backward, but clearly I'm not the target audience.

I really like GFN because it's free and it works. All this talk of improved quality makes no difference to me. What matters is which games I can play - if they run, that'll do, and the free tier is fantastic: it puts me off subscribing to Boosteroid, for example.
19.08.2025 22:39 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0
No, you can install games on their server and stream them, rather than them being readily available. Boosteroid does the exact same thing. I'm not sure why, perhaps it's a licensing thing.

"just like it did in the 80s"... not that you would have experience of that. π But yes, R Tape loading error was a constant problem for me.

I enjoy the free GeForce Now on my Raspberry Pi through Chromium, but I can't see exactly how this would improve things. It'll make no difference to performance, I presume, but maybe I'm missing something.

When I played Warhammer with my pals one used to say "don't shoot until you see the whites of their undercoat", cause I would just coat them with white paint and never actually paint them fully cause I was lazy and terrible at painting and just wanted to PLAY THE BLOODY GAME.

How hard is it to just not use Amazon? I used it 20 years ago when it was good, now it's basically American AliExpress. Just use eBay or literally any other shop, of which there are many.

AI has ruined blogs: I search DDG for the answer to a query and get 10 pages of the same regurgitated slop and it's impossible to find anything by an actual human. I remember finding one blog link that was from before 2020 and was like "YES!".

Not exactly: people commonly referred to the actual original DOS version as 'vanilla Doom', so the author of a source port trying to be as close to that as possible called it Chocolate Doom as a clever joke. But yes, it's one of the basic ice cream flavours (along with strawberry, I suppose).

I imagine not many people remember playing it, to be honest, given that it was pulled from sale relatively quickly, which explains the ridiculous asking price today. Still, piracy was apparently rampant, though I was too young to know where to get anything for my Speccy...

My dad bought it at my juvenile insistence for Β£250 (plus Β£60 for SM64), and I remember being very angry about the price drop so soon after launch. Taught me a valuable lesson, and I have never bought anything on launch ever again, console or otherwise.

I presume you read the headline and saw the photo and jumped to this conclusion, because the actual song isn't country in the slightest, but never mind.

I was a patron before GM but your story illustrates how all it takes is one viral video to change everything in this online world. The key is to keep people coming back after the viral video has run its course, which you have done, so kudos to you!

Sad to say I agree, I even chip in a buck a month to Fosstodon and it's how I found you, but I can only see a limited discourse there, unlike here where people talk about anything and it's genuinely become pretty big.

I'm curious how this works, as I've often watched vids from subscriptions then seen a different thumb a day or two later. Does it just keep switching the thumbnail for different users? If the vast majority of views are in the first day, surely you don't want to risk multiple thumbnails?

Jesus, is that real?! To think that AstΓ©rix was thought too obscure for a US audience so they turned it into the blandest thing imaginable. Unless it was cheaper to remove the licence, that's also possible.
