I'm hearing the same thing. Dems are nearing a surrender. I'm shocked. Largest protest in history + best election night in years + polling showing we're kicking their ass in public opinion. And now Dems may cave.

Funny thing is, I live in Florida and keep getting what other people voted for.

I received this email about Democrats caving to end the shutdown from one of the SNAP recipients I spoke to:

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

They want to blame the shutdown on Dems, doesn’t work. They try and block SNAP, money gets out anyway. Now they’re demanding the money be returned, without authority/mechanisms to do so.

Trying not to be overly optimistic, but hoping these are signs of things to come.

The regime despises poor people, yes. And importantly it does not fear poor people as a political force. It's important to take both of these together to understand what they are doing with SNAP. They do not believe that they will incur lasting political costs for their current actions.

Knee-jerk reactions saying Shumer is caving are understandable, but, in this specific situation, I think it’s valid strategy, especially considering Repubs won’t bite.

Even if they did, you could manage that “We ended the shutdown, now release Epstein files” etc.

Don’t love that this drains more money out of out schools, but it’s hard to imagine not checking the kid’s backpack immediately

Agree. Mamdani is a powerful example of this. He did not make his support for Palestine central to his campaign, but his insistence on sticking to his core beliefs when asked to repudiate them, but also reassuring those who were fearful, actually helped demonstrate his sincerity and values.
