They don't believe renters should be allowed to live within their neighbourhoods, only on the fringes, by major roads.

Their primary, unifying, rallying concern is "homeowner value" and getting what's their's.

These folks get way too much time in the spotlight. I get it, local news needs drama to sell stories but they are the minority and a small one at that. And having just left Hamilton, they're not exactly building a whole lot right now and have massive gaping holes in the network. I rode some 4000km in the lower city on the bike share so I knew the bike network well.

Think they're bad on the highway? You should get a load of em on local streets anytime it's a pedestrian crossing. I've only lived here for 4.5 months and have been nearly clipped 20 times crossing the street downtown. Red lights, no turns on red, pedestrian crossing lights, all ignored here.

Totally fair, I'd love to be in Vancouver one day, the wife and I visited before COVID. It's just too expensive for us sadly. The trend seems to be shifting inwards a bit more with Edmonton with more infill and hopefully more towers in the core. I live right downtown and it's definitely quiet, haha

I hope for Ontario's sake people wake up but based on living there for 36 years prior to moving, I have little hope. Alberta has its issues too, don't get me wrong, but at least housing is still affordable and Edmonton has a killer LRT system I fell in love with.

That's partially the people of Ontario's fault for continually voting in that buffoon Ford. I never voted for him but kept getting put through the ringer cause of suburban dipshit voters and people suckered by cheap beer and promises of endless housing starts.

I know Metrolinx built it, they're about to screw up the Hamilton one too I suspect. I specifically left Hamilton and Ontario behind because of incompetence like that. It still reflects poorly upon Toronto regardless. Toronto has enough leverage to push back on crappy transit projects though.

LRT is a horrendous term too, so many projects get lumped into that category that don't belong there. It's just an easy catchall to go "look, we built a train, we care about transit!" and then you get the garbage "LRT" that Toronto builds.

Agree to disagree I suppose. I just think using standardized language is generally a good thing so that we don't get this convoluted mess in planning when trying to explain these things to the public.

North America are the only ones calling them streetcars making us the odd one out here. We don't need to be some special flower here. Tram is quite ubiquitous worldwide these days. I'm with Reece on this one. Streetcar is just a bad name for them in my opinion 🤷‍♂️

People would just get used to calling them trams eventually though. We change the names of plenty of places and things, sure some will still call it the old name but most just get over it 🤷‍♂️ They should be called what they are, trams. Streetcar is just some nonsensical term for them.

Naming them streetcars isn't going to trick the carbrains into using them. They're just trams, they're called trams all over the world. We need to get onboard (mind the pun) by calling them what they actually are as they certainly aren't cars.

It's kind of shocking to be honest. Doesn't help that folks get no literacy about how their city works in school. I know I never did growing up and I doubt it's been added since then. Civics was half a credit for me in highschool and focused mostly on the Federal level.

I also find it hilarious all the squawking about "tHe CoST oF BiKe LAnes" as the city blows half a billion+ expanding the Yellowhead 🤦 Half a billion would build an entire citywide bike network for Pete's sake.
