I have come to the conclusion the EHRC guidance on single sex spaces should not even come to Parliament. It is misleading and has caused distress for my trans constituents.

I urge @bphillipsonMP to reject it on grounds of practicality and human rights.

I spent half of my life living under mandatory ID laws in several countries, and I can tell you from experience, you won’t like it. These laws are designed to give police arbitrary power to stop, question and search anyone they choose.

I am going to go out on a limb right now as a trans woman and say the phrase ‘trans rights are human rights’ is meaningless.
It’s a get out of jail free card for people who intend to do nothing to protect us.
I want concrete statements not meaningless platitudes.

I'm going to rephrase this for the hard of thinking:

We will not prosecute our way out of transphobia. The police will not take transphobes away to a cold cell where they can not bother us.

111/NHS direct is a joke. Having to misgender yourself to the people there for no reason is outright humiliating. It's designed to put trans people off reaching out for healthcare support.

There were years of surveys that worked on finding respectful ways to gather this information, disregarded.

The EHRC don't want your views; TransActual are challenging Government Ministers to do better!

We had no faith that the EHRC would conduct this consultation professionally, fairly or transparently. We asked individuals and organisations to send us copies of their consultation responses.

So basically in the UK, any time someone regrets having sex with a trans woman, they can go cry to the police that she "lied" about being a woman and the police and jury will believe them every time.

Then the woman will be sentenced to be raped by men in men's prison.

Thornaby transgender woman guilty of sexually assaulting man Ciara Watkin lied about being a biological female when the pair had a sexual liaison, a court hears.

This is a vastly upsetting case, that uses CPS guidelines that effectively mean if Trans+ people don't come out before sexual contact, they can now be found guilty of sexual assault - which is what has happened here

They only have open plan change and no separate third spaces. I had to strip naked in front of a room full of men. I was completely naked. Many men saw me. It is worth noting that before this I was already shaking with fear about the possible confrontation that could ensue. The security man and the two other men in the room circled me. I said I believed, according to what the EHRC and our political leaders have said, that I have to be in there now. Now that he infers I am trans, he starts sniggering at me. He tells me he doesn't care what I have to say, that I need to get out. So I do. I leave and talk to the store manager, where again, I have to relay all sorts of intimate and private details, of my background, my trans and intersex statuses, history of being assaulted, my genital configuration. This is humiliating. I felt deeply unsafe, humiliated, hopeless like nobody cares, violated. I don't think the EHRC lets me use the [service of my gender] so I was just denied service."
